It is worrisome that it's the niners. But I think the media assumed a decision sooner than manning was assuming a decision. This is manning. The most prepared and thorough player in the nfl. He's articulate and studies/breakdown everything. A long time for a decision was what I expected last week. There were 12 teams that contacted him. The niners were one of those 12. It's not like manning just found out they we're interested. Niners just kept it shady for Alex smiths sake. I don't see them putting up 90 million at all. Now If manning takes far less to play for them thats another story.

Broncos are going to lose out to San Fran. Elway screwed the whole FA pooch by swinging and missing at manning. Looks like he may have totally screwed the whole offseason.

You may be singing a different tune when Warren is cut/on IR again and backs are running for 200 yards on Vickerson and McBean.

Just saying like, not re-signing Bunkley would be criminal at this point given the crap that's left out there unless you'd like to see Shaun Rogers or Albert Haynesworth steal off another franchise.

Staying away from the early part of FA is fine for teams like the Steelers, Ravens, Giants and Packers simply because their depth players are far better than our current starters at most positions.

Both Grubbs and Nicks had they been signed would have instantly became our best interior olineman.

Finnegan at CB would have been nice. Instantly he would have been 2nd best dback on the team.

Lets see if they make some moves after we lose out on Manning. But doing nothing not my idea of using the cap space wisely. Sure we shouldnt just blow it all but i thought Broncos would go for at least 1 or 2 starting caliber guys.

They aren't even trying to spend anything for their most important centerpiece. Bunkley should not be a problem for this much cap space.

Agreed. DL is going to be a real problem. Bunk visiting Saints. Jones signing a 1-year deal with Seattle. We missed on the Miami DL (who I think would have been a great get). Who else is left? And we are completely tipping our hand in the draft. If we don't sign any DL players it will be obvious that is what we are looking for in the draft.

Also, I think we are out for Manning unless we break the bank. The 49ers jumping in changed everything. Heck, if I was Manning I would play for SF and take less $$$. I hope Elway doesn't grossly overpay trying to compensate for our lack of talent compared to SF. It's a shame we put all our eggs in one basket and if we don't get Manning we have nothing to show for the cap space we have.

And remember. Next year there is a salary cap floor. We have to spend a certain amount. So next year we will have to spend $$$ (and who knows if the FA talent will be inferior). This is turning into a mess.

Outside of Bunkley there isn't one good DT there, we shoulda had him tied up before FA but once again we refused to pay market value.

Since they aren't forced to spend up to the cap I agree. I see Xander's pushing the "we feel good with the players we got" angle just like last year. Like thinking Ty warren will be a pro bowler and miss no games.
