Alex Smith would have to be an absolute moron not to take the deal Harbaugh is willing to give him, what other team is clamoring for him to be their starting QB....
Then again, he hasn't signed, so maybe he is a moron...

This is like watching desert storm. Units moving on the ground. Planes are taking off. But we can only speculate.

If true Bowlen's plan is leaving, then I would say the Broncos are flying him to sign a contract. They supposedly have seen him throw already, so I doubt they need to see more, especially at this stage in the game.

I just read an espn article that said Manning has yet to throw for any team, but is willing if asked.

Most of the time I wouldn't read too much into a team plane going somewhere as they're use in a number of ways, but to specifically be going to Raleigh is certainly something.

We need to get Media out to the air port and see who gets on the plane. Team Dr? I would assume that a physical still needs to be done. The cat (flight) is out of the bag at this point so we should hear more soon I hope.

If they don't get a deal done soon maybe they jump in the Manning sweepstakes. They have plenty of cap room to get involved. And again, could this be one of the reasons Manning and Condon haven't signed a contract in Denver or Tennessee yet? Clearly I'm speculating, but it would make sense...

Now this might break Twitter ... Broncos plane scheduled to leave for Raleigh at 8:31 MT. Titans' plane meanwhile still in Houston.

Probably old news but....

JeffDarlington:
Peyton Manning personally contacted Dolphins on Thursday to advise them he wouldn't be signing with Miami, multiple sources

It's either a sign things are progressing or it's a last-ditch effort to sway him back to Denver's side.

I think this about signing a deal since I believe the Broncos are willing to sign Manning without some big workout and I am sure have the medical reports. I doubt Manning or the Broncos would believe Manning would pull some con job on them and find out later that he really can't throw or whatever. Manning's rep would be forever damaged if he even attempted such a thing, so it adds up to me the Broncos are in the process of signing him. Manning could have easily told them no thanks over the phone like he did Miami and probably as I suspect the Cards already.

I think they partially used Stokely's pass around to let them know how up to speed Mannings are was. I remember reading the article about that and how pissed Stokely was that the park he planned on using was full of lacrosse teams and that was his only responsibility, to find a place for manning and him to throw to each other.

I wouldn't jump the gun. It could be Elway asking for a final meeting before the decision. Manning could have just as easily called Elway to tell him he was going with the Titans and John asked for one last shot at the deal. Who knows?

As the glitter and glow of Bud's big offer get scrutinized next to the negatives of being a Titan the longer one looks at it the more cerebral and less emotional the decision becomes. Which favors Denver.

And I still don't think Manning is good for the long term competitiveness of this team so I'm not thrilled to agree with you but reality is what it is.

On the flipside, as many have said, it's Peyton Manning. Assuming the price is right (about $20M/yr), with protection clauses for injury to the neck (because just protecting against all injuries would be ludicrous from Manning's standpoing and he'd be right), and the Broncos have done their due diligence on his throwing etc then I have a hard time seeing how we totally lose in this deal. Short term we get Manning, if we don't get him we still have a long term plan in place. That said, without PM this FO better get its **** wired tight with respect to TT because playing QB is as much about confidence, swagger, and having the freedom to fail as it is about physical talent or mechanics and this FO just insists upon dragging TT's confidence through the outhouse ****ter and anyone who disagrees with that take is full of **** or hasn't been paying attention. Being a coach and managing players is part game part psychology.
