Mario Williams is not just an end but a LETHAL weapon from the outside. With Elvis on the other side and Von roaming the shallow secondary the opposing offense will have no idea where the pressure is coming from. Additionally, Mario will ensure that Champ gets back to being an A+ corner and helps Goodman reach the grade of a solid B. Mario, teamed up with Elvis and Von will also improve the play of our interior defensive lineman.

Elway needs to make this happen. It will solidify a defense that can exert it's will upon opponents and alleviate the pressure of a young, albeit dynamic offense.

Go Broncos! Go Elway! Go Tebow!

I guess never checked the link.

I can only hope our FO isn't that dumb. They do know Peyton just signed a fat new guaranteed-money contract right before bailing on last season... don't they?

Burn me once...
I wouldn't buy a house without an inspection. If our FO is dumb enough to blow over 25% of their available cap on a guy without having him workout they are too stupid to be allowed to breathe. If Manning expects to get signed without working out then F him, we don't need to foot the bill for the Peyton Manning retirement fund.

Christ, being in the same town as Griese's dog could put Manning's career in jeopardy. Playing behind the Whiffmeister, Orlando Franklin could put Manning in a pine box.

I think Franklin showed improvement over the course of the year but his performance doesn't really scream premiere offensive tackle. Maybe with the resigning of Ryan Harris the Broncos are looking to move him inside to help anchor the interior line.

Hmmm....

Clady, Kuper, Walton, Franklin, Harris

we're not spending $20 million annually on Mario Williams when we already spend $14 million on Doom and will have to extend Von in two years.

Why not? That's a scary combination and would actually pay more dividends then signing a used up geriatric with neck problems. Manning doesn't make this Broncos team a Super Bowl contender but signing Williams goes a long way to building a defense that CAN win a Super Bowl; just like we saw with the Giants this year.

Mario's the target. Bank it!

you've got to admit that it would be exciting to enter the season with some expectations....

also, don't we owe it to guys like Champ and Dawkins to give them the best chance to win right now?

I'm on the fence and will be hyped for the season no matter who is under center...but it would be nice for once to actually believe that we could contend for a title

The "best chance to win right now" only works for teams on the cusp of winning right now. If the Broncos had a defense like the Steelers, Giants or Ravens then it makes sense to go after Grampy Gimpy but the sad fact is that the Broncos are still a few years out. They have to walk the tight rope between winning right now and building for the future. At this stage of the rebuilding process EFX must hold fast to their plan and look to the future.

The Broncos are poised to makes some serious strides on their defense if they land Mario. If they fall into the trap of believing an aging, gimpy geriatric is the answer to the team's woes then they are fools.

I don't believe Elway, Fox and Xanders are fools.

It sure would be nice to have a QB that could hit WR's in stride, throw into tight windows anticipating when they will come open, lineup everyone to exploit a defense, execute an audible, make all the throws for a change

we made it to the second round of the playoffs. Not to mention, football is a game of anomolies considering the sample size of 16 games is way low. Every single year there's playoff turnover. The "few years out" is BS.

according to Dave Logan, rumors are that Manning and his agent are looking for a 3-year deal, $45M of GUARANTEED money, with NO injury clause.

does anyone believe for a moment that Bowlen could or would do that deal? seriously? anybody??

Everyone saw what the Colts were with Manning, and then what they were without him. Now imagine our team, how much better than the Colts it was last season, and add Peyton Manning and all the leadership, playmaking ability, all of it to our team. Any team Manning joins is immediately at least a playoff team.

The win now at all costs is BS too. The key is managing the tight rope that must be walked. Manning is not the answer. He just isn't.

exactly....who is "on the cusp" then? only the teams that made it to the NFCCG and AFCCG? the defense is there for the most part....if we could put up 25 ppg we could go deep....special teams play improved this year and we have a running game (although Tebow was a HUUUGE factor with that)

Manning would immediately put us on a short list of contenders

15 a year? That's not a bad deal. I don't believe for a second there won't be an injury clause though. It's just not going to happen.

I agree with this with one qualifier.

That team may also be completely butt****ed if he isnt healthy enough to be Peyton Manning anymore.

This team wasn't better without Tebow...

He would make us better, but this team is not very talented.
