Best way to use torrents anonymously? Should I go with a VPN service like hidemyass.com? Since the gubment effectively shut down ALL filesharing services when they busted Megaupload, I'm looking for the best way to get what I need with as little exposure to prying eyes as possible. Shouldn't be this hard to download a TV episode that was on last friggin night, but here we are. Thanks for the help!

VPN will slow down your download speed as it reroutes the packets. Relax, if you are really paranoid, go to Mcdonalds and download off their free Wifi. |

I got a nastygram from my ISP at some studios request not too long ago. Rather not deal with any of these Aholes.

Yeah maybe. Most of the time I use that it just makes me feel paranoid.
When I use torrents now I really only do so from private trackers (which, if you really want to worry, probably aren't much safer in the long, long run) |

It Fs everyone else but the reason you get busted is because of uploading, not downloading. Downloading, as far as I know, hasn't been ruled in a court to be illegal. There's too many fair use questions at hand for that, I imagine. The distribution is where you get caught.
The solution I use is to go into the bandwidth on my torrent-majigger and turn the upload speed to 1kb/s. Then I use the autoshutdown settings to close as soon as the torrent finishes. The catch is most ISPs have a 1 or 2 warning system before they say they'll take action. If you've already burnt one warning, it may not be worth risking it. I've moved since I got my warning so I've pushed the reset button on 100 years in prison and a $10 gazillion fine. |

Can you do things on them other than download obscene amounts of obscene things?
Never knew you could get copywritten material. Wouldn't that be easy to track as it's on a server run by the cable company? (Or so I assume since they always give you access) |

If your not sharing, they don't care. They are trying to go after the sources.

Set it to auto start and auto update with each start. Allow HTTP pass through. After that it is as unobtrusive as it gets. I got three letters from three different content providers in the span of about five months prior to using PB. I did zero to change my downloading habits and the only problems I've had at all were my ISP complaining about exceeding their new monthly bandwidth cap of 250 GB (I downloaded 891 GB). |

Usenet, as someone else said. May have to pay for access these days, though - I don't think many ISPs offer free newsgroup access anymore.
That, and mIRC XDCC sharing. |

im going to call bull**** on this
rapidshare was shut down once before, they came back, and are still going strong. Napster was shut down, not only did they come back but 20 things came out in place of them. Something will always be around. You can still fileshare, it just takes a little more effort at this time, sites like filejungle, wupload, deposit files are still running normally. Somebody mentioned newsgroups, ive used nzbmatrix in the past to browse them, wicked fast downloads, with grabbit, but you have to pay a 7 dollar fee to be able to search, otherwise you can only browse whats been posted in the last 20 days. Link sharing sites like spooky igloo, divxturka, codehacks, digital kaos still seem to working normally, all the specialized sites have extra stuff on them too, just becasue the site is named wiiso, xbox360iso or sinfuliphone doesn't mean they don't have links to other stuff. Just look around. Heck most of those sites have sections where premium account info is shared so you can download many files at a time faster ![]() |

Whoever mentioned the Peer Block stuff, thanks. (On mobile, can't see who wrote each post.) I run PBB but I've never done any of the list stuff. I'll beef mine up.

Now that I'm at my CPU, can you explain how to get these lists or create them? Thanks in advance.

I don't think they can really track it, since it is not 1 file that contains the item you want. it is broken up into several (sometimes hundreds of parts) and then each part is downloaded and put together to form the file you want. One thing I did not mention above properly. SABnzbd is the connection and setup to the server, use NZBIndex to search for say, MP3's, books, etc. or any single download you want. http://nzbindex.nl/ I was able to locate some print screens with Google, just as an example. |

From then on it'll auto update every time you start PB or however often you have it set to auto update in your settings. I have the Steam list set to allow, everything else is block. Don't get too aggressive with your list selections though. You don't really need something like Bluetack Level 3 a.k.a. the tin foil hat list unless you think aliens controlled by the ghost of Richard Nixon are spying on you through your neighbor's home PC. |

what you can try is to use SSH secure encrypted tunnels together with multiple PirateRay.com servers located in different parts of the world.
You can select either a specific server or set the settings to enable the random selection of the server whenever the application starts. After that, all the data that the user receives or transmits is encrypted. All operations involving the torrent network will take place by using an IP address of a server that is located at the other end of the world. Logging on does not happen on the same servers, so you can be assured of your security and anonymity. |
