he is good but plays a little out of control sometimes. gets a good amount of stupid penalties as well. if he can avoid being taunted into committing those stupid penalties and can channel his aggression a little better he can be a perennial pro bowler MLB in the mold of a Ray Lewis which would be awesome in Denver.
his addition would undoubtedly make DJ the weak link in the LB corps. |

We'd potentially have the best run defense in the league within 2 years after the draft if Vontaze even became a solid starter type. He looks like a pure run defender with a nasty streak. |

The Meanest Man in College Football: “For every great story you have about Vontaze,” says Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck, “another guy on another team will say he has one better.” “I know one thing,” says Oregon State coach Mike Riley. “Somebody is taking a blow every play (Burfict is) on the field.” From near academic casualty to a player former USC coach Pete Carroll whined about upon losing the recruiting battle to Arizona State, Burfict now is arguably the most gifted—and complicated—player in the game. "...the play against Washington in 2009, when Burfict shot the gap on a fly sweep, knocked the guard off his feet and made the tackle. During film study, coaches replayed the moment over and over in sheer disbelief. “I swear to God, he decleated a 325-pound guy,” Moos says. “You wouldn’t believe it if it wasn’t on film.” Or the play last year against Oregon, a game many NFL scouts say defines Burfict’s talent—which lies in his ability to chase and pursue from one side of the play to the other without giving up ground or explosive power—because the Ducks run read option plays where the quarterback reads the defensive tackle and directs the flow of the play away from his pursuit. Burfict shot the gap, knocking Oregon guard Carson York into the backfield and forcing Ducks quarterback Darron Thomas to commit to handing off to tailback LaMichael James. Burfict then tackled both York and James—460-plus pounds of player—at the same time for a 5-yard loss. “You’re thinking he can’t do that,” former Oregon center Jordan Holmes says, “and then he does it, and you’re left thinking, Holy cow.” This guy idolizes Dick Butkus and Ray Lewis. He's 6'3" 250 and hits like a ton of bricks. I don't think I have seen another player in college hit like this guy. There is so much power in his lean. He's going to make running backs pay in the NFL. Last edited by epicSocialism4tw; 10-06-2011 at 11:28 PM.. |

if we get him, it'd be a shame if Dawkins isnt around anymore - people would look back in awe that those two guys once played on the same team.

Seems like a long time since there was a legit #1 MLB coming out.
I'd love this kind of a pick. |

However, he and Miller on the same team might literally kill a qb someday. Last edited by Tyrant; 10-06-2011 at 11:50 PM.. |

Troy Polamalu was criticized in that exact same way at USC. Polamalu too is a really soft spoken guy who flips a switch and becomes the most violent player on the field between the whistles. This guy has that Polamalu mentality in the body of a freak MLB. I havent been keeping up with draft scouting up to this point, but I can't imagine that he's much lower than 2 or 3 on most people's boards. |

Nate Irving can't be happy about this.
On a side note. Tampa Bay has their 3rd round MLB starting for them. While I like Mays for his hits, he's not a long-term solution. |

What is more important to a run defense? A great MLB or a great NT/DT. Some of the best run defense in the league feature a great MLB.

He's #11 on Kiper's "Big Board", who has this to say about Burfict: Burfict has great instincts, makes plays sideline to sideline and is far more disciplined than he gets credit for. Has a ton of experience and will draw comparisons to many of the elite middle linebackers. |

I have been saying for a while this would be the ideal pick for Denver if we fall in that 5 to 10 drafting position. If we end up a little higher I would like to see Elway trade back out of the top 5 and take him. There isn't a DT ranked very highly currently and I don't like reaching on DT's in Round 1. Lets take Burfict and go DT in Round 2.
The other guys on my list are Kirkpatrick from Bama and Janoris Jenkins formerly of Florida if we finish around pick 10. We need to draft D all day this year unless Kalil or Martin are available with our first pick and Burfict is gone. |

As an ASU alum I've been watching him closely. Dude is just plain nasty. He's a man among boys out there, very similar to Terrell Suggs in that sense. You just know they're gonna succeed at the next level.

I don't care where we pick...But I don't understand how anyone, ever, could think we should take anything other than a DT.

Burfict would be an amazing get and I've loved this guys progress this season as far as discipline and heady play are considered. I do still think it's a matter of time before he loses it and costs his team a game in penalties lol but even then, still a worthwhile top half selection for sure.
But him AND Miller? We'd be every bit as soft vs the pass as we are with Mays and Miller. Besides, we're going with Luck |

Why would we take him over Andrew Luck at #1?
