I'm not sure I really believe that. He was the 5th leading receiver last year and they're speaking very highly of Kellen Davis and Spaeth. Quite frankly, the two don't have to do much to fill Greg Olsen's production.

He had 41 catches on a team where the leading receivers had 51 each and tied for the team lead in Rec TD. That's not exactly an afterthought

400 yards for a "receiving TE" is the definition of "afterthought".

His production was certainly down (the Martz factor), but It feels like whenever they really needed a play Olsen was there.

Well if that's what it feels like to you, then he was clearly snubbed for "All Pro" last year and the Bears have no hope of replicating his massive 400 yards of production.

I'm sure the yardage will be made up for somewhere, but there is something to be said for having a security blanket target you can depend on. Maybe one of those other guys will step into that role...time will tell

no end game, I'm not fighting with you. I simply agree with Bean. Olsen served as a security blanket for Cutler. You don't have to make big plays to do that, just be available and on the same page when things get hairy. On a team where trust in his receivers has been shaky at times, that can be pretty important.

Yup, in his two years with Cutler he had over 100 catches for over 1000 yds and 13 TDs. Not bad considering he didn't even start 4 of those games and Martz's system didn't feature him as much as it probably should've. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing us get back to that kind of reliable production from our TEs.

I don't see it. At all. Subpar #s in every category of his "specialty". Poor blocker. Etc.

I just don't see anything he brought to the table that couldn't easily be reproduced or even improved upon.

Cutler is entering a point in his career where he doesn't need a security blanket, or team, to win. The guy will win SBs with no talent around him. He is the kind of talent that can carry a team to wins. Along with firing Shanahan, this was easily the biggest mistake in franchise hostory.

As long as the Bears defense continues to give up 17 points a game he will get his shots though.

I meant offensive talent, and he came close last season. It took a bad injury to stop him. Cutler is a vet now though. He is ready to lead.

You keep telling us that coaches don't always know what's best, so why should we care what Heimerdinger thinks?

The fact is that the Bears dumbed down their offense last season because Cutler kept throwing up INTs, ruining things for the defense and special teams that were the real reason they had a good season last year. Then he quit on them in the playoffs.
