I had a hard time finishing that book because of how dark it was. I don't like being entertained by books or movies that make me feel miserable. That's not to say that it wasn't a well written novel, because it was.

There's certainly a lot of darkness in the story, but it leads to resolution in the end.

Ok first of all......mayor lurker here!
Anyway in short... I was born in Maimi but raised in Colombia. Been a Bronco fan since 2000 (Can't say I lived the Elway years but I have watched the most of him that I could get my hands on).I decided this was a good thread to bust into the community. Hopefully my next post will be more football oriented but in the mean time I just want to chime in on this thread. You guys have some excellent choises and since I didn't see this one posted I just wanted to mention it. Try watching Tropa De Elite http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cb-rUfBTQ1g It's an awesome movie that depicts the real way police deal with favelas in Brazil. It can also be aplied to others place in South America like Colombia...just not in the same scale. Try watching it in Portuguese in english subtitles because the english version does it no justice. And trust me.....you will all have a blast watching this one. I think it's from the director from City of God. *Can someone tell me how to embed videos on the threads? Thanks Last edited by Heyneck; 05-20-2011 at 07:36 AM.. |

The best music documentary ever. "Standing in the shadows of Motown"
YouTube has many of the performances..........but you can't embed them. Love this track by Joan Osborne: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gA0Gc...eature=related |

This one was nominated for Best Film Oscar the year it came out. Incredible love story, beautiful cinematography, and soundtrack. Takes a bit to get the story rolling, but when it does, this is a damn good movie. John le Carre at his best with a political twist.
Check it out! |

Two of my very favorite documentaries ... couple of very high achieving members of The Greatest Generation:
. . . .![]() Tom Dowd, legendary producer/engineer at Atlantic Records, was obviously an immensely likeable guy, it shines through in this film. All his artists clearly loved and admired him ... from Coltrane to Clapton to Aretha to Skynyrd. During his 50+ years at Atlantic, he single-handedly pushed new Ampex multi-track recorders on reluctant studios, and he resurrected the long-abandoned recording process called 'stereo.' Interestingly, in 1945-46, before joining Atlantic, Dowd worked on the Manhattan Project right out of college, the atomic bomb. He said Oppenheimer was a real d!ck. (That was a joke). Robert McNamara is widely reviled for obvious reasons ... but he did save lots of lives by pioneering auto seat belts while president of Ford Motors. Many poorer nations raised their standards of living as a result of policies he instituted while president of the World Bank, and he disliked warmonger Air Force General Curtis Lemay whom he served directly under in WWII. All this, plus a couple recorded phone calls between he and LBJ, in which McNamara actually advocates (somewhat) lesser action in Vietnam in the face of Johnson demanding more, the Vietnam experience will probably seem less black and white after you see it. |

Fascinating inside look at the recording of 'Layla,' from Clapton and producer Tom Dowd:

DO NOT waste your time on Boondock Saints 2. Absolute garbage. Figured I'd watch both of them back to back (hadn't seen the first one in a while), and wow what a mistake. Didn't even make it halfway through, had to turn it off. Just an extremely poorly put together sequel. Blech.

Hey...who knows, you might love it! I dunno, maybe it had to do with the fact that I literally started watching it after having finished the first...and the differences were glaring.
Norman Reedus' accent got worse (didn't think that was possible), clifton collins jr's character is absolute ****, the new detective they bring in to replace Defoe tries WAAAAAAAAY to hard, and the three cops from the first one all decided that they would make this movie their shot at oscar nominations. The overacting is atrocious, the plot was written (seemingly) by a 16 year old french canadian doing his best Cannes indy-short film-wannabe impression, the lines are forced and unwitty....about the only saving grace is some action. But, like I said, not enough to keep me interested. I dunno, you might have better luck if you hadn't seen the original in a while |

Good one BB.

Bump. My Netflix queue needs a shot of HGH.
This movie looks badass, but there's a "short wait" for it on Netflix *shakes fist*: |

Bullit, starring Steve McQueen, is good. Sort of a sleepy pace, but aesthetically beautiful to look at, and one of the best car chases of all time.
