Bump.

Need some Netflix queue fodder.

Anyone see Ip Man 2? Loved the first one.

I just saw this one in SoHo the other day...it was pretty funny:

Some of these may have already been mentioned, but here are some I watched recently and really liked:

The Illusionist- not the current animated one, but the one with Edward Norton made in 2006. Very good story with a surprising ending.

Devil- M. Night Shyamalan has made some stinkers lately, but this is his best since Signs, imo. Very suspenseful tale of 5 people stuck in an elevator, and one of them is Satan.

Law Abiding Citizen- great "getting revenge on corrupted government" flick. I have always liked movies and/or characters that are clever, and this one is/has both.

Dangerous Liasons- made in 1988, this is an 18th century French period- piece. Good story with great acting from a wonderful ensemble cast, with: Glen Close, John Malkovich, Michelle Pieffer, and Ulma Thuman.

Zulu- based on a true historical battle between the overmatched Brits and an overwelming Zulu tribe, set in the late 19th century. Michael Caine's first starring role.

The Orphanage- this 2007 Spanish-Mexican film won 7 Goya awards. Good mystery with just enough creepiness to make its mark.

New age of kung fu film awesomeness Bruce Lee makes a sort of "cameo" in Ip Man 2...that's all I'll say. Enjoy it! It's definitely worth the experience!.

Bruce Lee is the most famous disciple of Ip Man and was slated to be featured prominently in Ip Man 2, but eventually only makes a cameo in the form of a boy.

Here's some photos of Bruce and his Sifu Ip Man:

After Hours is a 1985 American black comedy film, written by Joseph Minion and directed by Martin Scorsese. Paul Hackett (Griffin Dunne), a New Yorker, experiences a series of adventures and perils in trying to make his way home from SoHo.

Storyline

In 'Round Midnight, real-life jazz legend Dexter Gordon brilliantly portrays the fictional tenor sax player Dale Turner, a musician slowly losing the battle with alcoholism, estranged from his family, and hanging on by a thread in the 1950's New York jazz world. Dale gets an offer to play in Paris, where, like many other black American musicians at the time, he enjoys a respect for his humanity that is not based upon the color of his skin. A Parisian man who is obsessed with Turner's music befriends him and attempts to save Turner from himself. Although for Dale the damage is already done, his poignant relationship with the man and his young daughter re-kindles his spirit and his music as the end draws near.

Storyline

In the bourgeois circles of Europe after the Great War, can anything save the modern man? Harry Haller, a solitary intellectual, has all his life feared his dual nature of being human and being a beast. He's decided to die on his 50th birthday, which is soon. He's rescued from his solipsism by the mysterious Hermine, who takes him dancing, introduces him to jazz and to the beautiful and whimsical Maria, and guides him into the hallucinations of the Magic Theater, which seem to take him into Hell. Can humor, sin, and derision lead to salvation?

Vanishing Point is a 1971 action-road movie directed by Richard C. Sarafian; starring Barry Newman, Cleavon Little, and Dean Jagger.

Vanishing Point
is notable for its scenery from filming locations across the American Southwest and its social commentary on the post-Woodstock mood in the United States. The film is beloved by Mopar auto enthusiasts because it is one of the few movies ever to feature a classic Dodge muscle car.

Vanishing Point was also the inspiration to Quenton Tarrontino for Death Proof. I think they mention it in the movie. (Maybe that car they test drove was the same model).

Is that based off the classic novel?

Question for all you netflixers... I just signed up for the free trial through my ps3, but there are a TON of movies that aren't available. Does that have to do with the free trial? Or if I go ahead and take the plunge, is that the only way to gain access to more movies ? Or are there just less selections when you stream?

They really didn't give too much info when I signed up :/

Way less selections when you stream. You can get anything by mail. But only some movies stream -- has to do with whether the owner of the movie has permitted it.

Lots of old movies, not as many new ones.

Oooo. Gotcha. That's kind of a bummer!

If you stream, can you also get movies by mail?

Yes, it's all included. The only variables are (1) how many movies at a time they'll send out; and (2) whether you get blu-rays.

I have the cheapest plan (one at a time blu-rays), and get unlimited streaming.

Yes.

The film makers did a superb job - given the complexity of the subject matter.

Yeah, online selection is kinda slim. Another kind-of-drawback ... they get new releases a month later than Blockbuster, although I heard that on a Blockbuster commercial.

Fwiw, I just bumped a good thread on Internet TV info.

I guess they are giving out crappy free trials now. The free trial I got a year ago gave me streaming and 4 dvds rentals at a time.

Same plan I got. I can usually get around 2 rentals a week.

Great movie. Not as factual as the first one, but still a good movie.
