Winters Bone was a pretty good flick. No big stars but a good story and acting.

House of Games- made in late 80's with Joe Mantegna & William H Macy. Other than The Sting, best con-movie I've ever seen, including The Grifters, imo.

Valkyrie- one of the better Tom Cruise movies, and based on a true story in WW2 that doesn't get mentioned enough. I think it is important that people know that there was a strong faction within the German regime that wanted Hitler dead as bad as the rest of the world.

Hotel Rwanda- with Don Cheadle. Another true story about a hotel operator in Rwanda that risks his life to save a 1000 or so refugees from being just another statistic in the genocide count. Tragic, but wonderful movie.

Devil in the Blue Dress- with Denzel Washington & Don Cheadle. Set in 1940's L.A., Denzel plays a recently laid off middle class working stiff who takes a seemingly routine private detective case, and finds a deadly conspiracy that goes all the way to the mayoral race. Great flick.

I found the movie kind of dull. History is a movie spoiler...most people know how Hitler died.

Powerful movie. I thought it was incredibly well done. Not a light watch, but the ending is cathartic.

I really enjoyed a couple of movies I watched recently:

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World - If you grew up playing Nintendo in the 80's this movie is for you. Cool use of CGI to enhance the story, and very funny.

It Might Get Loud - Jimmy Page, The Edge, and Jack White talk about the electric guitar. The Edge seems a little out of place, but watching Jimmy and Jack do their thing is awesome.

Great flick, and available to stream on Netflix. I first thought I would have rather seen this movie featuring only Jimmy Page, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that by having segments of the other two, it really demonstrated the genius of Page.

Thanks for the heads up. Awesome movie. I didn't think The Edge was too out of place, though. Sure, technically Jack is probably the best of the three, and Jimmy is the icon, but the sounds The Edge has come up with over the years are pretty iconic in and of themselves.

very cool movie.

Saw it. The combo of Page, Black and Edge is an interesting mixture. Jack Black basically carried the movie while Page and edge were ancillary to the Jack Black story.

I really, really reccommend The Filth and the Fury. Fantastic documentary about the Sex Pistols. The SPs music was overshadowed by their infamy in England. Their music stands on it's own and its too bad the band disintigrated before they could record more songs. The Pistols were too controversial to ever survive but at least they were around long enough to record some fantastic music...

All of these are available to stream on Netflix:

"No Intelligence allowed." Regardless of which side of the Darwinism vs Intelligent Design argument you are, this documantary by Ben Stien(yes, that Ben Stein), really indicts the Darwinism elite for doing exactly what organized religion did to science prior to The Scopes Monkey trial; and that is shut them up and fire or intimidate anyone who dares question the status quo in science.

Mona Lisa- I really liked this English film from a then newcomer(1986) in Bob Hoskins. He plays a low-budget criminal of sorts just out of jail who gets hired by a mob boss to drive around a high class call girl played by the beautiful Cathy Tyson(neice of Cecily Tyson). Not a chick flick, imo, but just a great story with characters you can beleive in.

The Betsy- Just saw this Harold Robbins adaption from 1978 last night. What a cast with Laurence Olivier and two up and comers in a young Robert Duvall and a very young Tommy Lee Jones. Olivier plays an aging car maker that wants to go out with a bang, and The Betsy is the car that will do it. Lots of good acting mixed in with plenty of nude scenes, screwing around(everyone is screwing everyone), and power struggles will keep you interested.

The Secret in thier Eyes- I gave this Argentine film that won an Oscar in 2010 five stars out of five. A retired detective is writing a memior and incorporates a rape/murder case from 25 years earlier that he felt never had closure. So he re-visits his past female superior who is now married to re-open the case, and of course, possibly start a relationship that he passed on years earlier. I rarely watch foreign language films, but I absolutely loved this one and can see why it won an Oscar.

The Stoning of Soraya M... Very well done docudrama. It's sad to know that this is a true story and the practice of stoning continues even today. Highly recommend!
