Texans waived DT DeMario Pressley.
Pressley is a low-end three-technique prospect for 4-3 teams, so he never had a shot to stick when Houston switched to a 3-4. The 25-year-old may draw a bit of interest on waivers from teams desperate for an interior pass rusher. Feb 18, 4:47 PM Texans released WR Andre' Davis. Davis turns 32 in June and missed all of the 2010 season with a tailbone injury, so he never had a fighting chance to see his projected 2011 salary of $4.7 million. Davis was once one of the NFL's top special teamers and a viable situational deep threat, but he may struggle to find a home in free agency. Feb 18, 4:43 PM |

Owner Jim Irsay confirmed Thursday that the Colts have already offered Peyton Manning a more lucrative contract than Tom Brady's four-year, $72 million deal.
Irsay had already his intention to do exactly that, so it's no surprise. The Colts are willing to go to five or six years to lock up the 35-year-old, which is a no-brainer. Manning has never missed a game, and he figures to hold all of the major NFL passing records by age 40. Source: Associated Press Feb 17, 7:32 PM |

![]() Rams released FS O.J. Atogwe. Atogwe was due an $8M roster bonus on the 21st, and the Rams clearly had no plans to pay it. Though Atogwe had expressed desire to stay in St. Louis, he'd be smart to shop his wares on the market. Unlike most unrestricted free agents, Atogwe doesn't have to wait for a new CBA to sign elsewhere. He also turns 30 this summer, and won't have many more chances like this to hit it big. Figured this would happen, but Chad Greenway was tagged. I was hoping the Broncos could get him for the LB'ing crew. O well

The Baltimore Sun reports that the Ravens have decided to release Willis McGahee.
The decision was reportedly made at the Ravens' recent personnel evaluation meetings. McGahee, entering his age-30 season, is due a $6 million salary in 2011, and the remaining years on his contract are optional. The move is expected sometime after the owners and players finalize a new CBA. The Sun's Mike Preston suggests that the Ravens could re-sign McGahee for less money after cutting him, but he's likely to pursue the best contract possible. Source: Baltimore Sun Feb 21, 4:24 PM |

Sweet!!! I hope he finds his way to our team. He could bring our RB position some much needed speed.

Denver should be looking at Carolina's linebackers before they try to sign a high-priced runningback who would split carries.

Agreed. Ball and Buck looked much better at the end of the season with Tebow as a dual threat. The wildcard in this is that it's unknown if the teams can signed UDFA's after the draft due to CBA restrictions. If so, I would be fine going after a UDFA or two, and just grabbing a TE or a FB right now.

Saints cut Jeremy Shockey
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...eremy-shockey/ The New Orleans Saints are cutting ties with tight end Jeremy Shockey. Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that the Saints are terminating Shockey’s contracts. Shockey has long been a favorite of Saints coach Sean Payton, who was the Giants’ offensive coordinator in 2002, when Shockey was the Giants’ first-round draft pick. So in that respect this move may seem like a surprise. But the Saints loved the production that rookie tight end Jimmy Graham had in 2010, so it’s not a shock that Shockey is being let go to make room for Graham as the new No. 1 tight end in New Orleans. |

![]() ESPN's Adam Schefter reports free agent TE Jeremy Shockey "took and passed" a physical for the Dolphins Thursday. The Titans may not be interested, but both sides are tangoing in Miami despite GM Jeff Ireland's statements to the contrary earlier in the day. The match doesn't make much sense beyond Shockey's fame and a reputation for college success in South Florida a decade ago. That may be enough to get Shockey into a Dolphins uniform for 2011. He's not an upgrade on Anthony Fasano at this point in his career. Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter Feb 24, 4:18 PM |

![]() Panthers extended restricted free agent tenders to DeAngelo Williams and DE Charles Johnson. Whether the tenders mean anything will be determined by the new CBA, and we'd bet heavily against them being binding. Williams is a five-year veteran, while Johnson has four accrued seasons. The tenders will only restrict the players' free agency if the next agreement goes against the NFL's tradition of restricting only three-year players. Four- and five-year vets should all be unrestricted. It's complicated and boring, we know. The bottom line is that these tenders are much more bark than bite. The Ravens will allow impending free agent FB Le'Ron McClain to test the open market.
"Le'Ron McClain is a ball-carrier, too," coach John Harbaugh said. "He's not just a fullback. The market's going to declare that a little bit." McClain is as good as gone if another team promises him an increase in carries in addition to a raise. Source: BaltimoreRavens.com Feb 24, 1:48 PM |

Stanford Routt's three-year deal is worth $31.5 million, including $20 million over the first two years.
You read that correctly. No team in the league values Routt as highly as the Raiders. They managed to drastically overpay even though they were essentially bidding against themselves. Routt is a versatile corner sporting an impressive catch rate last season, but it's laughable to hand him two-thirds of Nnamdi Asomugha's salary. Source: Jason LaCanfora on Twitter Feb 24, 1:28 PM |

CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco confirms that the 49ers will not use the franchise tag before today's deadline.
They'll risk losing NT Aubrayo Franklin, and perhaps FS Dashon Goldson. Franklin expressed a desire earlier this month to test the free agent waters, and the 49ers weren't happy with his decision to sit out all last offseason and training camp after receiving the tag. Tagging Franklin again would've given him a 120-percent raise over his 2010 franchise salary. Source: Matt Maiocco on Twitter Feb 24, 11:01 AM |

The St. Petersburg Times' Stephen Holder predicts that MLB Barrett Ruud will be allowed to test unrestricted free agency.
Bucs GM Mark Dominik will meet with Ruud's agent at the Combine, but Holder would be "surprised" if there's substantial progress in contract talks. It sounds like Ruud is targeting an elite linebacker deal after asking for an extension for the last three years. The Bucs look unlikely to grant his wish. Free agent S Brodney Pool didn't allow a single touchdown pass in the second half of the 2010 season.
He also had nine pass breakups, although the Jets were hoping for more than one interception. Pool, 27 in May, is still only expected back in New York if he's willing to settle for a relatively cheap contract. The Jets "don't want to spend big for a safety," according to beat reporter Rich Cimini. Source: ESPN New York Feb 24, 10:02 AM |

![]() Redskins coach Mike Shanahan "hinted strongly" that Clinton Portis will be released this offseason. It's not exactly breaking news. Portis has missed 19 of a possible 32 games over the past two seasons, is due a ridiculous $8.254 million base salary, and turns 30 in September. Shanahan says he "wants (Portis) to test the market," and is hopeful he might return at a significantly smaller salary. Source: Rich Campbell on Twitter Feb 25, 5:01 PM |

![]() Coach John Fox suggested the Broncos will add a complement to Knowshon Moreno in the backfield this offseason. "You need more than one guy to make a full commitment to running the ball," Fox said. "We'll be in the process of finding more than one guy." Fantasy speculation has free agent DeAngelo Williams reuniting with Fox in Denver, though it's a dubious fit. The Broncos have too many other glaring needs to allocate resources to Moreno's backup/timeshare partner. Expect a lower-profile addition. Source: Denver Post Feb 25, 9:58 AM |

![]() Impending free agent DE Cullen Jenkins is "99 percent sure" he's finished in Green Bay. "Not at this point," said Jenkins of a potential return. "You get to a point where you want to go where you feel you're wanted. The way everything came down, it's just time for a new start." The Packers played nickel on more than 70 percent of their snaps last year, which limited Jenkins' role. He'll garner plenty of interest from 3-4 teams on the open market.
