I think Affleck will likely focus more on the directing, he's pretty good at it. But to say his films are all bad, well he's had a lot of bad ones that's for sure, but he was in Hollywoodland and he was pretty good in that. And oddly, he was pretty decent in He's Just Not That Into You (not a very good film by any means), but he was good, not Matt Damon by any means, but okay. And State of Play was a good film, though that was more about Russell Crowe than him. My favorite acting from him was his earlier stuff, largely with Kevin Smith, like Chasing Amy, Dogma.
Cool Starry Bra... yah, I went there

Ben Affleck is a good actor and a better director. He along with Matt Damon are also smart actors, which is uncommon among "movie stars". They went into a deal with Harvey Weinstein and Miramax way back when where they were promised "Good Will Hunting" (which they apparently had some help with) would be pushed and they would be made into stars if they signed contracts with Miramax to star in X number of films (the same way Nick Cage is obligated to do tons of crappy disney movies), hence why Affleck was in a lot of bad movies like "Bounce".

I really like Ben Affleck's directorial work... he focuses on character driven drama... that's a rarity these days. He's a solid actor... he's always looked a bit "off" because he's a big dude (6'3" or something when most male movie stars are in the 5'9" range) and he got a bit caught up in the celebrity... but he really cares about movies and it shows.

I will definately check it out.

I agree. A great film directed by Peter Weir, who directed Master and Commander, another one of my favorites.

I love The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. And don't forget 12 Monkeys, also directed by Terry Gilliam.

I was just reading about that one on my Blockbuster queue and curious as well. It's a foreign comedy- dunno if it's subtitled though...

It's not a comedy more a satire. It's is subtitled in part and english in part. It's an interesting movie slow moving but some good acting and a thought provoking story. Worth a watch.

Is it just me or is it hard to find a good, true comedy these days?

Thanks for the heads up.

Love Master and Commander, I think its one of Russell Crowe's best movies, far, far better than the over hyped crap movie Gladiator.

Housesitter (1992)

Genre: Comedy
Starring: Dana Delany, Goldie Hawn, Peter MacNicol, Steve Martin, Julie Harris
Director: Frank Oz
Release Date: June 12, 1992

:::Synopsis
Comic dynamos Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn pair up for the first time in director Frank Oz's romantic comedy of an architect and waitress who spin wild tales about being married to each other, only to discover that their stories aren’t entirely false. When Davis (Martin) tries to eject unwanted housesitter Gwen (Hawn) from his lovely but unoccupied house, he discovers that Gwen’s romantic lies to the locals about their whirlwind courtship and wedding have captured the townsfolk’s hearts and made jealous the woman who turned down Davis's marriage proposal months before. Seeing the opportunity to win back his sweetheart, Becky, Davis agrees to let Gwen stay in the house while they pretend to be married. As Gwen’s clever stories bring Becky and a deserved promotion within reach, Davis must figure out how much of his sham marriage is truly a sham. Hilarious when on their own, Hawn and Martin ratchet comedy up to a whole new level when they team up in one of the most outrageous and backward courtships ever.

Man and Boy Bill Cosby kind of a strange movie but real in a good way.

Tough to give enough attention to the posts that list s**t tons of movies, so I'll try to leave 2 that pop into my head that maybe not too many people have seen:

Millions--Danny Boyle movie--nice family-ish type of movie about a kid who finds a bunch of money. Great directing, interesting enough story, and nice soundtrack highlighted by some Muse

The Man Who Copied--Brazilian movie. They've got some cool storytelling techniques, and I think I watched this back in 2003 or so after having become infatuated with City of God. Very different movies, but I'd recommend giving this a chance.

Thanks to everyone else who made some contributions in thread, I'm gonna try to check some of these out when I get a chance.

If anyone here is interested in Asian films:

Once upon a time in China - Jet Li

Once upon a time in China 2 - Jet Li and Donnie Yen with the two fighting each other at the end. Nothing like the lame fight scene in Hero either.

Tai Chi Master - Jet Li

The Legend - Jet Li

Iron Monkey - Donnie Yen, probably his best film before Ip Man

Ip Man - Donnie Yen, best martial arts film to date

Dragon Tiger Gate - Donnie Yen: just slightly over the top, but good

Fist of Fury - Donnie Yen: TV series of Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury

Snake in the Eagles Shadow - old school Jackie Chan

Shaolin vs. Lama - old school kung fu flick

Ninja in the Deadly Traps - what could be cooler than Ninjas attacking the Chinese army?

The Great Jang-Geum - Korean TV series: Broke all records in asia when it came to TV ratings and awards.
