Not sure if the weather can get much worse in Queensland.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41351735/ns/weather/ Afters months of flooding that's destroyed the region and brought an emergency tax to pay for damage and recovery, a catagory two hit on Sunday. This Wednesday or Thursday, an esspecially wide catagory four is set to hit and drop up to 3ft of rain. "This is an event that we have to take seriously," Bligh said. "It may well be one of the largest and most significant cyclones that we've ever had to deal with." More to follow......... Last edited by Boomhauer; 02-01-2011 at 06:09 AM.. |

As I've said in a few other threads: "The weather is schizophrenic".

With plenty of warning and a small local population, it seems everyone was able to evacuate. At this time, there are no reports of injuries, but two people missing. The cyclone hit as a catagory five with winds of 190mph and damaged as could be expected: 90% of buildings have extensive damage and boats were pushed a few blocks inland by a msaller than expected storm surge. The cyclone has since been downgraded to a catagory two as it moved directly inland in a WSW direction. |

From flood to fires. The main city on Australia's west coast, Perth, is batteling brushfires in its NE and SE suburbs. At least 64 properties destroyed and 32 damaged with only 60% of area surveyed. |
