Default Best Holiday Movies/TV/Media Etc

oddly, when I did a search for Christmas (because I thought there was already a thread on Christmas movies) this is what I got:

search.jpg

But anyway, I was curious to know what everyone likes to watch this time of year. My persona favorite is Scrooged with Bill Murray circa 1988.
Below is one of my favorite scenes (Carol Kane cracks me up, my other favorite of hers is Princess Bride "I'm not a witch, I'm your wife.")

Funny, before I saw your thread, I was gonna say that the Bill Murray version was an underrated classic.

And to your other point - come on, what holiday season isnt complete without talk of TSA crotch groping and Bob talking about balls

I just love Scrooged, but now I am watching another Christmas movie, Love Actually. My favorite part is the washed up rock star. He makes me laugh so much. (paraphrasing) "Don't buy drugs kids. Become a rock star and they will give them to you for free."

Oh dear, Bob and balls, makes me kind of want to join a nunnery.

There's only one Christmas movie. It's the Alpha and Omega.

You know this mother.

btw, when you gonna stop hanging around my peeps. Nothing like having your mom find your football board.

The "Christmas Carol" staring Alastair Sims. Best version ever made.

"A Christmas Carol" would be my favorite.

I'm not cynical about Xmas, but this one is still funny:

I'll second this...never really cared for Scrooged with Bill Murray.
Christmas Vacation is a classic, loved that.
Not much for animation but how anyone can deny Charlie Brown's Christmas special's is beyond me.
and...of course, there's this:

Ok, I admit it.... I'm a sucker for the old Rudolf. I play it off like it's for the kids. But they could really care less about the old animation. But secretly it's for me

I think Scrooged was just pounded into the ground with me.....it needs a rest of about a decade. Some films hold up to many repeated viewings and for me, that doesn't. Sorry Miss I.

I see your point, but I never ever get tired of watching Carol Kane kick and pummel Bill Murray. I really can't explain it, but it makes me laugh.

I certainly agree it isnt' as classic as some of the others. Perhaps it would've been better had I said, what is your favorite movie, not necessarily the best.

At any rate, the true Christmas classics, as poplulary defined would probably be:
1. It's a Wonderful Life
2. A Christmas Carol
3. Miracle on 34th Street (the Maureen OHara one)
4. Charlie Brown Christmas
5. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the cartoon, not the Jim Carrey thing)
6. Rudolph
7. Frosty the Snowman

There are also people I understand who enjoy that movie with the leg lamp and a some sort of bee bee gun and a kid sticking his tongue to a pole or something.

Oh I know. Ralphie there has held up well over the years, but when TBS plays it for 24 hours over Christmas Eve/Day...it's a little much. I usually catch it once during that time, more out of tradition now than anything else.

My brother loves it and I find it funny, but the marathon wears me out. I think a newer film I like is Love Actually, but I am aware it's a bit of girl movie, but I can't help it

Totally counts ... and I've seen that I bet 50 times always a holiday fav.

I'm the I hate the classics guy , name a classic and either I haven't seen it because I don't think or know I wouldn't like it , or I seen and hated...

Like I've never seen any of these from start to finish in one sitting , just bits and pieces ... Braveheart ,E.T.,The Gladiator,The Thing ,It's a Wonderful Life,Miracle on 34th Street etc etc ...

But I finally got talked into watching A Christmas Story like 3 years ago and now it's like my guilty pressure Xmas movie...

TnT or one of those stations does the 24 hours of A Christmas Story and I bet I watch it at least twice every year... Almost bums me out when they stop replaying it cause I know Xmas is over . I'm a big wuss and a sucker for Xmas.

But I agree with Hogan11 , A Christmas Story has became a must see for me this time a year... Xmas Vacation and Scrooged are damn funny as well.

Ernest saves ch...er wait thats on my worst list.

Have always loved A Christmas Story, saw it in the theater at SW Plaza when it came out. You know just because its on for 24 hrs on TBS you dont have to watch it unless you subscribe to comcasts TBS only service.

National Lampoons one with Chevy Chase and Beverly Deangelo isnt bad either, but I always find it weird that the kids arent the same.

Christmas with the Kranks just pisses me off. Wth do you care that your friends/neighbors get so into it that you have to 'hide' your trip. Sack up already!

I've seen both versions, but the 1994 version can't even BEGIN to touch the Natalie Woods version in awesomeness...
