I know it's no big deal and all, but I'm glad my eyes haven't started to go on me yet. I'd have a real problem sticking my fingers into my eyes. It'd be glasses city for me.
Like diabetics, I'm scared to death about diabeties because there's no way I could shoot myself up if I came down with that type. Some things I'd just have a real problem getting over and actually doing |

I wear contacts. I'm near sighted and apparently developed a stigmatism, so at some point I will need glasses or go with the glass contacts. I'm OK with soft plastic contacts...I can leave them in and not worry about it. But eraser sized glass spheroids? No.
And I had a problem with sticking my fingers in my eyes too, but you do get used to it. ![]() |

My family on both sides for the most part has pretty bad eyes, especially my dad's side. My grandmother, rest her soul, had eyes so bad they sewed contacts into her eyes and she still had glasses that were over half an inch thick.
That being said, I have terrible eyes and rock glasses. I can't stand contacts. I've thought about getting the lasik surgery or whatever for your eyes, but I've heard that it doesn't last forever and I can't justify spending a couple grand on something that is bound to reverse. Glasses are cool though. I can't imagine being a ****ty-visioned person in a world without our modern perks. |

I have heard different things about lasik. Some people say they have perfect vision, and should never have to get another one, other people say it could blind you. So I will pass on that one until they get it figured out. I dont mind glasses. I just like having options. Some days I dont want glasses on. Others my eyes are too dry to wear contacts comfortably. Options baby. ![]() |

Get this: I checked with my optometrist about options. He suggested I go Lasik - cut one eye for distance, the other eye for up close. I thought he was drunk or something until I researched it, and that is what they do. Strangest thing I ever heard. But even more puzzling ... what's with Hogan's problem "sticking his fingers in his eye?" ![]() |

Are you all smoking the crack? I just got Lasik in August. Best thing ever. Lasik does not reverse itself unless you are a freak of nature of somekind. Yes, after 40, the eye muscles get weaker so reading glasses may be necessary, but those would've been necessary with or without Lasik and then I would've had contacts and reading glasses or whatever. I love being able to go anywhere without dragging a bunch of saline or glasses, etc. Being on a cruise last week without glasses was excellent. The surgery was easy, and I just had my final 3 month check up, better than 20-20 as it has been since the beginning. I occasionally have to use eye drops, but I used to have to put a ton in with contacts because those buggers dried my eyes out. Love lasik, love it. My sister got hers 12 years ago when the surgery was a bit earlier and she has never had problems. My surgery took about 15 minutes for the actual cutting and lasik and I was able to walk out with sunglasses, no bandages.

Lasik can reverse itself. I have had several friends with not even poor vision (compared to mind) who have had to get the surgery redone within 24 months of the original surgery. It may not be common, but it does happen. |

Fair enough. I know there are risks with any surgery, but I can't say I have any regrets. and it seems to be working out fine so far, but things can change I suppose. I would never advise anyone to do something they aren't sure of. I can only speak of my experience which was a positive one. My sister also had a good experience with it 12 years ago and two other people I work with have had it and love it. But you make a fair point. I guess I am just amped about it being so succesful. It's about the only thing recently that has been for me.

A downside to contacts...
They seem to be dust and eyelash magnets. Most miserable I have been in my life was this girl in one of my classes was shedding hairs all over the place, one got in my eye and took up residence coiled around the contact, but I couldnt see it until I took the contact out. My eye had never been so flipping red before or since. It remained that way for three days and the grossest gunk ever kept weeping out of the eye...so gross. ![]() |
