Winner. If that ain't a bonafide pegging, I don't know what is....You have my sympathies, Hogan.

I was going thru some old cassette tapes and found a few pieces from this lady. I was turned on to her when I saw Rik Emmett do a piece with her and Ed Bickert and Alex Lifeson.

ETA: Plus, I haven't seen Super Dave in years.

There's a reason why I had to go the iggy route with him Bombay, he's impossible to discuss a subject with if your view is anything other than his. It turns into something similar to his political posts and basically I got tired of that. OK. I hadn't paid enough attention to know that I was wandering into the middle of something. LA shares my admiration for Humble Pie, so we've been communicating on that basis.

I can't really disrespect anyones musical opinions because it's all personal taste, but I've always had positive dealings with you, so nothing's going to change that.

I'm anxious to see what the general consensus about Tom Morello is here. He's definitely got a signature sound. Some say he relies too much on effects but I think you're either good or not good, regardless of effects. Morello is good, IMO. De La Rocha severely limits what that group can do but he does the 'guerilla metal' thing well. Tire Me is my favorite Rage song.

But you listen to Audioslave, say 'Like A Stone', and you can see that Morello's got some nuance and finesse to his playing, for sure regardless of the effects he's utilizing.

As for Woody, that really brings back memories. My grandparents had some 78's of his stuff. I musta heard Dustbowl Blues a million times. You can hear his stuff all over Johnny Cash's stuff.

And now for my side of the story...

You went the ignore route because you didn't like being called on your erroneous claims about studio musicians and any number of other music-related subjects.

Your "impossible to discuss with him" statement is a remarkable case of "pot/kettle/black" insofar as you have earned a rep for being as opinionated and self-important as it gets where music is concerned.

If it's not a style or a piece that Hogan likes or understands, then it sucks.

None needed Assasssin, everyone is well aware of how he is from the WPR. I just pulled the plug on him because it wasn't worth it anymore.

He can take his 15 yr. old "interwebs" flame warrior schtick to others, I've turned the page long ago.

Actually, everybody knows I don't bring any baggage from that forum into this one.

Nah, not in the middle of anything BB. It was over long ago.

I'm actually surprised he's still frothing over it....that's kinda weird.

Amazing how you can make this sort of assumption when you have me on ignore.

If you were actually following along here, you'd see that I simply told Bombay that he didn't need to apologize or defend his musical tastes to you.

Morello is in my top 5 of all time greatest guitarists. I dig De La Rocha as vocalist, but I grew up with in your face music, so I find it less loud, and more thought provoking.

I'm into Hieroglyphics, Immortal Technique, got Deltron 3030 in the 6 disk w/ Sublime and some old Blink 182 as well.

My adopted "grandad" was a huge Woodie Guthrie fan, told me his music was timeless, and to make sure my kids know "This Land is Your Land" and if they weren't singing it in school, to pull em out. I figure Utah is one of the last places they'll stop singing it.

Hieroglyphics, nice drop man.

As far as Tom goes, I think he is a unique guitarists -- but the overuse of effects just really gets me. Never been a huge pedal guy. Only Billy Corgan uses more effects. . . Hah!

Sadly, that song is only learned in passing these days but remains a beautiful ode to America.

It's tough times for folk music these days.

I pull out Pete Seeger every once in awhile, "If I Had A Hammer" has been my favorite of his since childhood.

Pete Seeger's great. What was your take on Springsteen's Seeger Sessions? I couldn't stop listening to it for about 4 months straight. It's still a personal fave of mine from the last 10 years or so.

I've never heard that release, so I can't weigh in on it.

I'm a bit thin in the folk music section, I think I may have around 15 cd's total of the genre, so there's a lot of stuff I have yet to check out there.

It's a very raw sounding album. I highly recommend it, and I'm not even a Springsteen fan, per se.

McGuinn still tours, plays and sings well and tells great stories.

Roger doesn't come around my area for some reason. If he did, I'd check him out in a heartbeat.

Yeah, neither am I, but I can see him doing well with that type of project. I'll make a note of it and check it out if the oppertunity ever presents itself for me to do so.

I'm not really sure where you are, Hogan, for some reason I was thinking you are near Buffalo. Anyway, McGuinn (I'm really not trying to push him on you.. well, maybe not) is in Bethel, NY (wherever that is) in May.

Bethel is on the other side of the state, it's where the original Woodstock was held and is generally out of my striking distance. I'll catch him if he comes around my area and I can get the time off and whatnot. I know we discussed his performances before but I can't remember now if he still breaks out the 12 string Rickenbacker or not...does he?
