![]() I know...ain't it great?
![]() This is sure to bring Buff in here guns a blazin', but I had grown so bored with Zeppelin (mainly due to years of serious oversaturation during high school & college) that I really find them to be nearly unlistenable. Dread here made the catalog interesting again thru their interpretations for about 2 years in the early 90's before the joke worn thin and it too, became very tiresome. The videos however, are a totally different story....they never get old ![]() It drove the purists that I know totally nuts at the time. Evidently, it's the ultimate sin to make fun of LZ (go figure). At least the remaining Zeppelin guys get the joke, they actually approve of this stuff.....believe it or not. |

![]() Was drinking last night debating which band was better and/or more important in rock between Rainbow (with Dio) or Sabbath (with Dio). As you can see, Dio was what started us on that path.

Actually I'm pretty tolerant of satire. The "blasphemy" line rings a bell, too ... I performed solo for much of 98 and 99, and I played a few Zep songs. Most people loved it, but I recall one guy waited 'til a set was over and said, "that's blasphemy." ![]() |

Rainbow never really escaped the long shadow of Purple IMHO. They had some great players come and go over their career to no avail and they eventually ended up in MOR hell. They never really registered to be more than a footnote in Blackmore's career, so important is hardly a label I'd tag them with. "Long Live Rock And Roll" & "On Stage" were the albums I've held onto and still have to this day....although, I confess, neither have seen the turntable in well over 15 years. |

But in Sabbath, you had a whole new incarnation and monster. The sound of Sabbath changed SO much with Dio, not only in the vox but the general theme of the tunes and the structure of the songs. They did so much more than they could do with Ozzy in the band (i agree that ozzy would be in 2nd place in the pantheon of sabbath voices). The two albums they put together were good overall but with some seminal metal tunes like Neon Knights, Children of the Sea, and Heaven and Hell. Sabbath's gems were greater than Rainbow's, which means my vote is for Sabbath. |

Man On The Silver Mountain...Stargazer...there's a few from the Dio era of Rainbow. Too bad they didn't have a longer ride and bigger body of work, but I guess people can only work with Blackmore so long before they want to shoot him in the head...lol I found the Elf stuff to be pretty ordinary, you? |

Yup, I remember those songs now that you mention them. Always heard Blackmore was difficult to work with as well, so numerous personel changes in his groups were not surprising....to be honest, I never thought he was all that anyways. |

One more Humble Pie tune. Sorry, Hogan. LA and I might be the only fans here, and I wish I could find more live stuff. |

It's another thing to sit on the sidelines and criticize those who are actually engaged in the creative process. Sorry - but I can't stand music critics. Even when I don't particularly care for a particular piece of music, I still respect the fact that someone put their heart and soul into it. |

![]() There's a reason why I had to go the iggy route with him Bombay, he's impossible to discuss a subject with if your view is anything other than his. It turns into something similar to his political posts and basically I got tired of that. It's impossible to have a discussion with someone who's totally unyeilding and goes into total flame warrior mode at the slightest sign of a disagreement with his POV. So why bother? |
