Closet opened wide ... In my established (though dubious) habit of compulsive self-disclosure, here's Doris Day and 'Secret Love.' I'm not even joking, I love this one ... ![]() |

Good call, yes, a few years ago that was THEE gold standard. I think that damn HBO thing tainted it some.
Warmth of the Sun, Wendy, Girls on the Beach, Not Made for These Times, In My Room, Good Vibrations ... but really, Don't Worry Baby is my favorite. Lots of artists covered the song - that can taint an original too - but it's never faded for me. Something about the lyric ... Quintessential California teen, but deftly tempered with that classic Brian Wilson vulnerability. I guess I should've kept my mouth shut |

This one's a quirk ... drummer Dennis wrote one of their best. |

Heard this song a few times recently with the Chilean miners, so I pulled out Joshua Tree couple nights ago. Good Gravy what an astonishing record ... as classic as any other. I can't name an album that's better. Pick up this song @ 2:50 and give it two minutes. I dare you to tell me there has EVER been a more visceral, emotive singer ... the guy bleeds every word. And the Edge, wow. I'm not buying all that Paul Bunyan 'he taught himself guitar three months before their first album" nonsense. The sounds he gets and the way he uses them are magnificent, as unique as Bono's voice. At this point these two should really be mentioned in the company of Lennon-McCartney, Page-Plant. |

Incidently, that album is a total headscratcher. Instead of doing what could've been an all time great album of drumming, he did bad zonked out covers. Proof positive that mid-70's California (and it's influences) was not a good place for someone like him to be. He simply never had the pipes to sing...well anything. Had 20$ to Best Buy on a gift certificate so I bought Sevendust's third effort Animosity. I remember listening it to the first time back in 2001/2 on Thanksgiving with my cousin. Hah.

![]() HBO piggy-backed the first season of 'Big Love' right after The Sopranos during its final season, so unsurprisingly their abuse of that classic song was pretty widespread. Quote:
No way am I gonna click on that. As strange as it sounds, I think John Lennon played on that record, or was at least hanging out with Moon then. That mid-70s period was around the time he and Moon and Harry Nilsson were debauching themselves all over L.A. |

'John from Cincinnati' was another HBO show that piggybacked The Sopranos at the end there, a damn good show I thought.
JFC was cancelled after a couple seasons, but they did choose a killer theme song ... I love this one. |

Wow, good news ... looks like they saw the error of their ways.
Repent ye sinners! Quote:
Abusing a classic song like that - as the theme for a dumb TV show - is a greater sin than adultery ![]() |

You think about a Who track like the goofy "Cobwebs And Strange" from "A Quick One" and how wild and cool his drum breaks are on that, then think of what a solo album from him could've and should've been. All we got was this, this thing that I rank as one of the very worst albums ever made. It's just tragic. |
