The most NOTICEABLE differences.... Bigger screen Dual Cameras (front facing so eventually you can video conference) HDMI output, and the ability to record in 720p Ability to be used as a hotspot twice the ROM (as a commenter pointed out) and of course, the 4g. IMO, the biggest factor is the plan pricing. I was a sprint customer for almost nine years (spanning three states and countless road trips), and have ALWAYS been impressed with their coverage. It's quite comparable to the big Red if you ask any of their reps. The big difference though, is that sprint has the free mobile to mobile with any of their "all inclusive" plans. So basically, even with their 69.99 plan that comes with unlimited text, picture mail, web, and 450 minutes, you can call any cell in the country without dipping into that pot. Now, with the Evo, a $10 addon is required, bringing you up to about 80 bucks. Try finding a comparable network with THAT pricing. Can't wait for this phone!!! |

and p.s. I think the Droid Incredible is an amazing phone as well, and if I was going with Verizon, that's the beauty I'd be picking up. It's the best phone on the market (spec wise) until June 4th

I have the HTC Hero and love it. Live the Android platform...EVO looks cool as well.
I have had great experiences with Sprint personally. |

LOVED the phone at first, but the dialer was extremely laggy, and there was a major problem with sending/recieivng sms, dust under the screen, problems with the build quality etc etc (I was just one of the unlucky ones haha). I don't think they updated to android 2.1 either...not sure if they have since then or not. Anywho, a couple of returned phones later, the third one was pretty decent, but I was fed up unfortunately...LUCKILY, I dropped the phone in a pitcher of water, and that set some things in motion. At that time there was a loophole in my contract, so I got out of it with no ETF. There was talk of this phone (they actually thought it was going to be the incredible), so I figured I'd join back up once it came out.The hero was sprint's first attempt at a genuine smart phone (something comparable to the iphone), and they did pretty well...just too many bugs for me. I think now that HTC's had some time to work with the CDMA format, they've fixed some of the previous problems. I know Sense UI also had some glitches (the Hero was a little underpowered IMO), but I think they've ironed that out now as well. Other than that, I've ALWAYS had great luck with sprint. The great part about the upcoming 4g is that while sprint may be 3rd as far as the wireless coverage goes, they're definitely out front right now with Clearwire, currently the biggest wireless broadband network. Verizon's LTE might be the way to go in the future, but for now, I'll take sprint. hope your hero serves you well! |

* The Incredible comes with 8GB of internal memory, where the EVO only has 1GB. Both are expandable by SD card (I think the EVO might come stock with an 8GB card, I'm not sure). * The ROM is a complete non-feature. Simply a technical detail. I'm guessing that there is some extra sprint stuff on the EVO requiring the larger ROM footprint. It's nothing you can actually use, however. * The EVO does come with a kickstand that allows you to sit the phone on a table and watch movies and what-not. It's a bit gimmicky, but kind of nice. It really comes down to personal preference. FWIW, I went with the incredible. I was able to snag it on a 1-year contract which will make me eligible for the upgrade to the Verizon 4-G (LTE, which should be a lot faster than Sprints WiMAX) network when their first 4G phone is coming out at about this time next year. I moved to the incredible from an iPhone 3GS, and I absolutely love it. I'd be happy to go into why I think Android is the superior platform, but I REALLY don't want to turn this thread into an apple fanboy flame-fest ![]() |

The Larger screen is fantastic for people who are going to be watching movies, taking pics, playing games etc etc. Internal storage, you're right, incredible has the evo beat. I think they were banking on the fact that 2.2 froyo will allow the capability to store apps on the sd card. And yes, it's shipping with an 8gig card (expandable to 32). The rom is important simply because of all the ****** sprint ships with the phone. That's where a lot of the lag came from on the hero, mostly useless (imo) apps that sprint loads on there. As far as the LTE goes, it'll be interesting. I kind of agree with you, from what they're claiming, LTE is definitely primed to take over sooner, but WIMAX might be the winner in the end. I think the technologies will push each other, but disagree in the sense that LTE will be a "lot" faster. Time will tell. Stoked for you though, the incredible is a beautiful piece of technology! |

and p.s., apple fanboy's can suck it. Android is the way of the future, and the iphone 4g isn't even going to be a REAL 4g phone like Big Red or Sprint. It's going to be HSPA+, which they're claiming is going to be twice as fast as their current 3g. All theoretical. So good luck trying to hit those 7.2mbs numbers

I was under the impression that WIMAX was going to be the more "common" of the two in the future. Way to cover your bases though, sprint |

Bowtown (or anybody else), how you likin the new Evo?
I'm LOVING mine. loving it. This thing is a beast.... Phone. honestly, this was my biggest worry after owning the Htc Hero, but the Dialer works flawlessly, call quality is top notch, speaker is loud and clear. I've dropped one call, and it was in the middle of BFE on the way to Moab on friday night. Camera. So far, I'm extremely impressed with the camera, FOR OUTDOOR shots. During the day, with a little tweaking, I'm getting better pics than I was with my old 7.2 mp kodak. Anything involving the flash is a little sketchy, but I'm sure with a little more playing time I can get it down. Internet. Haven't gotten to try 4g yet, but the 3g on this phone is fast fast. Pages fully load in a few blinks of the eye, and the giant screen makes navigating super easy. Flash lite has been great, and watching youtube videos has never been this fun on a phone. Apps. Well, anyone that's used the Android market knows how fast it's growing. I've got an app for damn near anything you can think of, from counting calories and finding the nearest restaurant, to turning my phone into a strobe light for a private lap dance. The market is incredible with it's diversity, and you can find just about anything you'd need for free. Android. Right now, the Evo's running v 2.1, but an update to v2.2 (froyo) is scheduled for the second half of 2010. Love it. The 1 gig processor really shows up in the multitasking here. I don't experience ANY lag when swapping apps, typing, scrolling, etc etc. It's all just a seamless blur of technological fun. Sense UI is amazing btw. Android truly gives you the best customization of any phone out there. Overall, I couldn't be any happier with this phone. It's exceeded ALL of my expectations (even the kickstand comes in handier than i thought it would), and SO FAR, the ONLY problem I've had with it is the stock weather app. A quick phone call to sprint for a profile wipe will fix that. Other than that, this thing is a beast. The screen is beautiful, it's easy to type on, call quality is top notch, battery life is great, app's work flawlessly (btw google maps is better than sprint navi imo, and on my trip to Moab it didn't miss ONE turn or voice command)....i'm truly impressed. Believe me when I say that if there were something to criticize, I'd be right here flaming away, but SO FAR so good. I'm almost half expecting something to go wrong, but for now, fingers crossed. Fantastic piece of technology. |

Tilt 2, only reason I got it is because the phone was free and my family got me in for free on their plan.
I have 30 days to return it if I don't like it. |

right on man, not too familiar with that phone...hope it's decent. The new iphone's gonna be pretty nice. Nothing TOO groundbreaking, but definitely some features that iphone fans have been clamouring for.

I also try to follow this strategy, but my problem is I'm horrible at identifying the correct jump on point. As a result, i'm still using a cell phone that was "old" back in 2005. Needless to say it's well beyond archaic right now. |

Everyone I show it to is shocked at how big and clear the screen is. I absolutely LOVE this phone, and I was getting lightning fast 3G service in the woods of VT, while my friends with iPhones were barely getting phone service. My only gripe so far is that the battery is absolutley abysmal. I have to charge 2-3 times a day with heavy usage. It's not a bad trade off though as I am rarely anywhere that I can't plug in. |

Same here. I put $100 on my pre-paid throwaway back in November and still have about $50 left on it. Been doing this for 3 years now. People pay more in tax or insurance each month on their phones than I do on my entire "plan".
