When I was little I fought for a bedtime extension so I could watch the Cosby show. If they turned that into a movie and tried casting Will Ferrell or someone as Bill Cosby, I'd flip my ****.

Or if Will Forte played Dwayne Wayne.

Or if Eminem were the next Fresh Prince of Bel Air

Or coming to America 2... only they come from Latvia or something and are white.

etc.

It would be absurd. 100% ridiculous and unwarranted for any reason whatsoever.
I get it.

You're not a racist, you're a troll.

"First the Karate Kid, next Spiderman?" What's the common thread? Black guys playing White guys. Except in the case of the Karate Kid, there is no white guy being portrayed by Jaden Smith. He's a new character. But clearly, it's a thinly veiled attempt to stir controversy, so it's worth it to shoehorn Karate Kid into this nonsense.

So now you get to start a flame war with all of the "look at me i'm not racist whites" and "hyper-sensitive minorities", based on nothing but some silly story that will never be realized and a movie that clearly doesn't fit the "blacks playing whites" motif of this entire thread.

This thread would probably be more worthwhile if you were actually racist.

Water tribe examples (your "Eskimos"):

Azula and Zuko (Fire tribe... what you called "more Asian decent")

The drawing style is actually influenced heavily by anime, so I don't understand where you're getting that it's all white features from.

Tell me something. Is this a picture of a white guy or an Asian guy?

Sure thing and good luck with that. In fact, this thread was pretty good for the first few pages with different opinions from all different types of people and backgrounds. Then people like you came along, blew it out of proportion and people aren't discussing it anymore thanks to people labeling other people based on their opinions of Spiderman. So congratulations to you and people like you... doing your part to ensure anything race related isn't openly discussed.

Very progressive.

I completely understand what you're going for, but I really don't think that applies for the following reasons.

Different artists telling different stories... how does that apply when the actual artists in the actual story DID draw many characters with specific ethnicity... did they just forget to do it with the main characters for some reason?

Remember the Guru from book 4?

(Sorry for the lack of facial close up, but they made him very Indian looking)

Black kid from the "Avatar Day" party

And many more that I don't have time to look up. Regardless, even if your point was one I agreed with (and I don't), you can clearly see 3 big points with this example.

1. The racial backgrounds of the characters are far too ambiguous as opposed to say... Peter Parker.

2. While it's an awesome cartoon, it isn't nearly as iconic as Spiderman... not even close.

3. I have a really hard time believing this guy is a white supremicist.

I liked Signs and Lady in the Water was worth watching though I wouldn't even label it good. The Happening was just awful but you can see he put an "Avatar the Last Airbender" backpack on a kid in that movie long before he got the deal done to make it.

I had a hard time with Signs. Aliens come to earth to harvest people for food and try to pick dry areas on a planet that has water on 70% of its surface. They land in countries that have ready access to water nearly everywhere, but planned people would be too dumb to figure it out?

I just think his "big payoffs" in his films are gimmicky and often rather lame.

The fact he is making a movie he hasn't written is a good thing, his films are very atmospheric and often beautifully shot.

I like the tinfoil on the head thing, that was funny, but the movie on the whole I wasn't impressed by and could someone tell M. Night that he cannot act please. He's as bad, no worse than Quentin Tarantino when he acts or tries to act.

For me, 6th Sense and Unbreakable are the only two I like. After "The Village" I wanted to kick his butt, that movie was painful and obvious.

I can believe aliens are hostile and would come to earth for less then noble purposes...but regular H20 is an acid for them? What happens if they land in North Africa and the area gets one of those once every two centuries rain storms?...there goes that invasion fleet. What about water vapor in the air? They should not have been able to breathe on earth...

I agree with 6th Sense and Unbreakable. Those were good flicks. The Village was just ridiculous.

Ummm easy answer actually.

Do you know of any planets with human life that AREN'T 70% covered with water? Maybe they didn't have a choice. Better a planet with 70% water and lot's of human life than a planet with 0% water and no human life, right?

If they had been scouting earth like the movie claims, then they would know that it can rain nearly everywhere on earth at any given time. Its a stupid premise. You dont go for steak when the steak is in the middle of a room full of hydrochloric acid, no matter how delcious it is.

What if you can tell exactly when the hydrochloric acid will rain down on you through science (meteorology) ?

Can you predict that your intended prey actually drinks the hydrochloric acid and would have it in their homes?

Hey I'm not calling it a great concept either, just a flawed example with the rain. Good movie though, imo.

He nearly casted Jesse McCarthey as Zuko so I'm almost inclined that he is secretly a white supremacist.

And once again, I'm trying to figure out why Spiderman's skin color is so important to his character. The costumed superhero is more iconic than the actual person IMO.

Jesse McCartney looks way more like the cartoon character than Dev Patel, so good luck with the closet conspiracy theories.

And because Peter Parker is every bit as, if not MORE (due to the relentless development of his character's early life, development) iconic than the costumed superhero. I'm even mad that they made the web fluid one of his powers, when originally it was something he built and developed (hence the two fingers clenched when he shot the web fluid because it pressed a button on his wrist mechanism).

There's plenty of room for a black kid/guy/even girl to get bit by a radio active spider. Just leave Peter Parker alone.

But once again, you still haven't explained to me how Parker's skin color is so important to him as a character and why someone who isn't white couldn't play the same role. IMO Peter has never been defined by his skin color. It's his humble beginnings and his idealistic views in the face of cynicism that makes his stand out. There's literally nothing about his skin color that makes it intrinsically important to that character beside one's memories of his physical appearance. And as shown by other posters, white people have played iconic historic roles that were not white either.

And personally, I think Dev Patel looks more like Sokka than Jackson Rathborne. And Dante Basco, who voices Zuko in the show, looks more like his animated character than McCarthey.

I don't know where exactly you think I "blew it out of proportion". Clearly in addition to your flame-baiting prowess, you are also quite skilled at playing the victim.

I'm sure you created a thread about not liking Blacks playing Whites because you love constructive debate.
