JaMarcus missed team meeting, but not Vegas
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...but-not-vegas/ Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 5, 2010 4:56 PM ET Jamarcus Russell and Richard Seymour were the only two Raiders to miss the team's year-end meeting Monday. Since coach Tom Cable gave Russell a hall pass, saying he was excused for "personal reasons," we weren't even sure the news was postworthy. Now it is. Going on a tip from a commenter, Oakland Tribune columnist Cam Inman dialed the Palms in Las Vegas to see if Russell was checked in. He was. (Tip to JaMarcus: Use the name "Ron Mexico" next time.) Russell is free to do anything he wants in his free time. Maybe he even had a legitimate excuse to miss the meeting, then book it to Vegas. But considering his disastrous season, not to mention his compensation, we'd think Russell would make damn sure he completed his obligations to his team and show up for the meeting like everyone else before hitting the slot machines. We would say this should be the last straw for Russell in Oakland, but let's be real. The man covering for him Monday, Tom Cable, is a lot less likely to be a Raider in 2010. |

The Broncos got their offseason going signing four players off their practice squad to “futures” contracts.
Linebacker Braxton Kelley, running back Lance Ball, tight end Marquez Branson, and guard Mitch Erickson were all signed. They can now participate in the team’s offseason programs, including the Broncos’ conditioning programs. |

Josh Cribbs has formally requested a trade from the Browns...
http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=090...s&confirm=true Holmgren must have rocks in his head. Seriously, offering your best player $1.4 mil a year? What are we paying Paxton? I'd be giving him $3mil+, and we no longer have to worry about having a revolving door in the kick returning slot. Would a 3rd be enough to get him across? |

Mangini to return in Cleveland
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...-in-cleveland/ Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 7, 2010 3:10 PM ET Eric Mangini's career as Browns coach will not end on a four game winning streak. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Mangini will return in 2010. Holmgren was reportedly looking for a defensive coach, and he's keeping the one that is already in the building. The full staff was told they will return. More on this story shortly. |

He dominates one of the three units (special teams) and contributes quite a bit on offense. Cribbs had 1994 return yards and 4 return TDs, he ran for 381 yards and a TD and caught 20 passes for 135 yards and another TD. That's 2510 all purpose yards....and he is a stud tackling machine on special teams as a gunner. He runs the Wild Cat offense for the Browns....and lines up in the backfield and in the slot formation from time to time. |

We get a ST threat, better than Hester, and a guy who can make a few catches. Even run WC if that is what they want to do. Make this happen McD and I will start to believe there is hope. |

Seattle Seahawks coach Jim Mora has been fired after one season, a source told ESPN.com's John Clayton.
Mora attended a meeting Friday morning with management, at which time he was told Seattle did not win enough games to save his job, the source said. The Seahawks finished 5-11. |

Report: Boldin "virtually certain" to miss game
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...-to-miss-game/ Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 8, 2010 9:08 PM ET When a player is listed as probable on the injury report, he's officially "virtually certain" to play that week. Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin is listed as questionable, but NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora reports Boldin is "virtually certain" not to play against the Packers. Boldin has a sprained MCL and a high ankle sprain. The ankle is believed to be a bigger problem. ESPN called Boldin's chances for playing "very bleak" earlier Friday. If Boldin is out, Steve Breaston will start. He's hasn't produced of late, but the Packers cornerback crew is thin after Charles Woodson. Woodson (shoulder) was one of six Packers listed as probable. The other five: Brandon Chillar (back), Chad Clifton (knee), Korey Hall (elbow), Johnny Jolly (foot), Mike Montgomery (ankle), and Ryan Pickett (hamstring). Packers safety Derrick Martin is doubtful with an ankle injury. For the Cardinals, Boldin is joined by five teammates all listed as questionable. Calais Campbell (thumb), Deuce Lutui (back), Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (knee, toe), Antrel Rolle (thigh), and Brian St. Pierre (back) are officially 50-50, but they are all expected to play. Adrian Wilson isn't buying DRC's injury, "He's got a little cut on his knee. It's not all it's cracked up to be. He thought he blew his knee out; he got a little cut." Boldin's injuries, however, appear very real. |

Peyton Manning wins fourth MVP award
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...rth-mvp-award/ Posted by Michael David Smith on January 9, 2010 9:02 AM ET Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning has won his record-setting fourth NFL Most Valuable Player award. Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star reports that Manning finished first in MVP voting by the 50-member Associated Press panel that chooses the award. Manning also won the award in 2003 (sharing it with Steve McNair), 2004, and 2008. Brett Favre is the only other player to win the award three times. Five players -- Jim Brown, Joe Montana, Johnny Unitas, Kurt Warner and Steve Young -- have won it twice. Manning had a career-high 68.8 percent completion rate, with 4,500 passing yards and 33 touchdowns. |

Fisher in the mix for USC job
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...x-for-usc-job/ Posted by Michael David Smith on January 9, 2010 11:50 AM ET Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams said this week that Jeff Fisher would remain the team's head coach. But now that Pete Carroll appears set to vacate the job at Fisher's alma mater, USC, things could be changing. We noted when Adams said Fisher would stay that Adams might actually be hoping someone comes along and offers to take Fisher away without Adams having to pay off the remainder of Fisher's contract. Could the Trojans be that "someone"? Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that USC athletic director Mike Garrett tried to hire Fisher before he hired Carroll in 2001, and that Garrett could turn to Fisher again now. Schefter also reports that Adams might be receptive to letting Fisher go. Fisher's children are grown, and he may be looking for new opportunities. The USC opening may be the right opportunity to make the league's longest-tenured head coach head elsewhere. |
