Garage Coatings - The Orange Mane

Anyone done their own garage floor coating? I'm getting tired of oil spills and am thinking of buying a kit. I found this do it yourself kit at lowes(http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...162&lpage=none), but is it worth it? What kind of quality are these do it yourself kits? Anyone know?

I have. It turned out really nice. But I started with new concrete. If you have old concrete with oil stains, I've heard it can be a bear. In this case, it's all about the prep work.

One of my favorite sites on the net is garagejournal.com. Be careful...you could get lost in there for days if you are a garage freak.

There is a whole sub-forum on garage flooring options with this product discussed quite a bit.

I am still going back and forth or what I will be using in my garage at Priest next summer. Tight now I am leaning towards the RaceDeck, Swisstrax or similar product as opposed to applying epoxy.

Post up pics of all the bikes on the new floor once you are done!

Yah, I'm a garage freak. Mine is painted & finished with cabinets down both sides with built in super strong steel work bench, metal pull out droors (recycled lateral files systems 6ft high from a corporate office) all custom built in. trimmed with moulding... I **** you not... lol

The nice thing about doing this is, even though I have a ton of power tools, kids stuff, biks, ets. Everything can be locked up and mess free. I can use it as a shop and the kids can use it as a play room opening up to the kids on the street. My wife doesn't understand it, but I've had guys take picture of it to replicate it.

The garages in the gallery section of that forum are just unreal. Size, attention to detail, workshops, machine shops, their knowledge...just amazing stuff.

I am in awe.

I think a garage as more than just a place to park a car is something you just get or you don't (most women seem to lack that gene).

Build it right though...and it can get to the point you were describing with yours....a place the kids (and neighbors kids) want to be in as much as you and your bros. That is perfect if you ask me.

Another thing I did was mount a lot of my tools (like drill press, grinders, chop saw, etc on the same size of boards. This does two things... first when you store them all you have to do is slide them in the cabinets like grates in an over and close the door. When I go to use them I can mount them on universal mounts on my table. One size fits all.
