Maybe he started in it, it cut lose at a low alt, and the balloon kept going. Kid might be in a tall tree nearby

The one expert said based on the size of it, it wouldn't take off w/ 10-20 more pounds, and that includes the box that was attached to it.

It takes a lot of helium to lift the weight of the boy + basket + weight of the ballon. Looking at the pictures of the ballon the authorities should be looking some where around the boys house.

I think that is the most likely case as well.

Hope for the best is all there is at this point. I agree with McOskie above and Tailgate. I just hope the box, assuming he was in it, detached soon enough with him still low enough not to sustain major injury.

Hopefully the box fell off at a low altitude and the kid broke a leg and can't move to get help.

Well, if the balloon doesn't have a lot of lift with the box there is a chance that the box with the kid fell off at low altitude and only after the weight was reduced did it gain significant height, he could be knocked out cold somewhere or just lost somewhere close to his house.

from a Denver news station site: http://cbs4denver.com/local/Falcon.H...2.1250962.html

Some search crews were focusing their efforts on the Platte Valley Airport, where someone told police they saw something falling from the balloon.

I thought that the family sounded familiar. Apparently they were on "Wife Swap".

I would buy a shirt if it went to proceeds of the kids rehabilitation or god forbid funeral costs. That being said, some sick **** is making a quick buck off this potential tragedy...and I don't support that.
