MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre was fined $10,000 by the NFL on Friday for his crackback block on Houston defensive back Eugene Wilson in a preseason game.

The New York Giants have cut David Tyree, the receiver who cradled a catch against his helmet to prolong a game-winning drive at the end of Super Bowl XLII.

Broncos | L. Jordan may stick with team
Sat, 05 Sep 2009 11:42:06 -0700

Lindsay Jones, of The Denver Post, reports it appears the Denver Broncos are going to keep RB LaMont Jordan on the 53-man roster.

Why I have no idea

Seattle axed Baraka Atkins and Courtney Taylor. Atkins would have to be agile enough to stand up for us to be interested I think, but Taylor is better than Jackson and Lloyd.

Bucs trade Luke McCown to Jacksonville

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...-jacksonville/

Posted by Mike Florio on September 5, 2009 9:58 PM ET

Last year, the decision of Brett Favre to play for the Jets caused the Jets to cut Chad Pennington. Which in turn caused the Dolphins to sign Pennington. Which in turn caused the Dolphins to trade quarterback Josh McCown, who had received a $2.5 million roster bonus as part of a new offseason deal, to the Panthers.

This year, the other McCown brother, Luke, received a $2.5 million signing bonus to stay with the Buccaneers. But after Byron Leftwich acquired as what initially was believed to be a smokescreen to make other teams think the Bucs wouldn't draft Josh Freeman, Leftwich won the starting job, and Freeman is the future.

And so the Bucs didn't need Luke McCown.

As a result, McCown has been traded to the Jaguars for an undisclosed draft pick, the Buccaneers have announced.

The Jaguars were believed to be looking for depth at quarterback, and the Bucs were believed to be wishing/hoping/praying that someone would call them regarding one of their four quarterbacks.

Some interesting names coming across waiver wires:

Terrance Taylor from Michigan... Don't know anything about why
Mike Hart - Always ran hard but he is a small guy
Beau Bell - Another very hyped fella for the Mane
Jack Ike-a-gwon-u (I'll spell it how it sounds) - I don't know if he's recovered yet from that ACL
Brian Brohm - Talk about a free fall since he was once discussed as a number one overall. Maybe our QB master could do something with him?

Anyone else out there jump out?

Oh, and Harrell and Carriker both on IR for the season. Also favorites of the Mane coming out of college.

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Matthew Stafford won the Lions' quarterback derby. Daunte Culpepper didn't lose the job.

That's what Detroit's new coach, Jim Schwartz, emphasized Monday when he made the No. 1 overall draft pick the starter for Sunday in New Orleans, when the Lions try to win for the first time in 21 months.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Quarterback Matt Cassel appeared on Kansas City's practice field Monday for the first time since injuring his left knee on Aug. 29, but his status for Sunday's opener at Baltimore remained unclear.

Cassel, who signed a six-year contract for a guaranteed $28 million, injured his knee on the third play of the third preseason game against Seattle. He was in full uniform Monday and did most of the conditioning drills in the short period the media were permitted to watch. If he does not start at Baltimore, the Chiefs would probably go with Brodie Croyle.

Coach Todd Haley was evasive whether Cassel would play Sunday.

BEREA, Ohio -- The mystery about Cleveland's starting quarterback has been solved -- sort of.

Browns coach Eric Mangini informed Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson of his decision during a meeting on Tuesday night, and both quarterbacks did their best to keep the secret as the team prepared for Sunday's opener against the Minnesota Vikings.

But by mid-afternoon, word already was starting to leak out. The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported that according to a league source, Quinn got the nod to start.

49ers | Dilfer works out with Crabtree
Wed, 09 Sep 2009 12:05:32 -0700

Matthew Barrows, of the Sacramento Bee, reports former NFL QB Trent Dilfer recently worked out with San Francisco 49ers first-round draft choice WR Michael Crabtree because Crabtree wanted to work with an actual quarterback and not catch passes from a machine. Dilfer said Crabtree is completely healthy and is in the San Francisco area waiting to sign with the 49ers.

What an asshat he is going to end up assraping himself if that can be done

First time I've ever seen "Trent Dilfer" and "actual quarterback" in the same sentence.

The Browns gave up a lot to get him....time to see what he can do.

They already know and have seen Anderson's limitations.

In my opinion, Quinn is a great fit for the offense McDaniels wants to run.

Then they should've traded with Cleveland cause Orton is limited and not the answer

I don't think Quinn is smart enough. He can barely beat out Anderson for the starting job. I don't want him anywhere near our team.

Lets draft our own guy next year.

I didn't say we should trade for him....just that he is a good fit for the offense we are going to run.

That said, I would have been cool with trading for him before the draft....not sure why you question his intelligence?
