Default Mardi Gras

Anyone ever been to Mardi Gras?

Last year I missed it for the first time in 10 years and it looks like I am going to miss it this year as well.

Anyway, if you haven't been, and you are still somewhat young and like to party, this is a must stop in your lifetime. The cops are more numerous now but it is necessary with the rise in crime rates and they are generally pretty laid back unless you start a brawl. 1 million people, 1 million parties. You will find yourself standing side by side Drew Carey or Snoop Dogg and hundreds of thousands of half dressed people,d runk and for the most part, having a great time.

Mardi Gras, for those not entirely familiar with it, is Fat Tuesday. Some kind of French/Creole deal. Anyway, there are parades for like two straight weekends and at the parades beads are thrown fromt he floats to the crowd. Prized beads include rare, large, or black beads. The black beads hold a special significance. Tradition has it that when someone gives you black beads you are obligated to have sex with that person (whereas other beads require to "Show your boobies"). This is rarely done anymore, but the tradition of the beads is part of the fun of Mardi Gras.

After the parades are over, the party in the Quarter begins. Beer mugs as tall as a man, breasts flaunting, the sweet smell of vomit and body odor mixed in with your failing senses of what thehell is going on. If you dont like a big crowd it wont be for you but if you are into that sort of thing, this is a great time for all. Be careful of alleys and off the main road sites as muggers lurk in every corner but if you are smart, use some common sense you can have a safe, enjoyable time in the U.S.'s biggest party.

For those that have been, share some stories with us.

Never checked it out...should've of but the year I lived there, I was out of town for it....made up for it by going to Jazzfest instead...that was a cool time.

FYI, you have to reserve accomadations years in advance for it unless you know someone in the area who can (and be willing to) put you up....I believe (but don't know for sure) that most N.O. hotels are booked till 2008 during Mardi Gras at astronomical rates per night.

Good luck.

You can get a room if you don't mind driving drunk for an hour.

Lofts on Bourbon St, last I checked, went for 5 bills a night, 3 night minimum. That was a few years ago. I suspect it's gone up.

I'll be there yet again this year. Let me know if anybody wants to slam a few drinks w/ a Fade Fan.

Mardi Gras is already in full swing here. Parades are starting up this week and will continue non-stop through Fat Tuesday.

The weekend before Fat Tuesday is definately the best time to come.

Over and above Bourbon St.. the Quarter and the biggest street party in the world.....the real fun is at the private parties and Balls.

The MOMs Ball is hands down...the best party in the world. Hot, hot women with no inhibitions all dressed in costumes. I would share pics from past years but I don't think TJ would allow them here. Just picture girls in nothing but butterfly wings....or a boa.....dancing, drinking, hugging, kissing...and you get the general idea.....but it really needs to be experienced. I would challenge anybody to find a better party...anywhere...anytime.

It is the hardest ticket to get during Mardi Gras....a local thing... You would have to be dead not to score here....

Also check out some of the bigger black-tie balls. Debutantes all dressed up in evening dresses. Mmmmmm! My crew goes to the Orpheus Ball on Monday (Lundi Gras). This is Harry Connick's parade/ball....great experience....espcially after being dressed in an outrageous costume the day before.

8 people from out of town coming this year....starting next week. If you are around Crow...let me know and I will toss a few back with you....tons of happy hours in this town start at 4am-10am. I am sure we can find a time to hook up,

24 hour bars are the best invention in the world!!!

I'll be there either the Friday or Saturday (nights) before Fat Tuesday. Possibly both.

24 hour bars = god.

The after hours clubs that the strippers go to after work are always fun

Hey Crow. I know you don't have a digital camera but you need to find one and take pics! I'm sure you can find a few ladies that would be willing to pose!

Actually, I'll be getting 11 Fat Head Franklins back from ya boy Bush next week. I'm thinking I may just buy a damned digicam.

As for the girlies, someone else posted that the boobies for beads thing rarely happens anymore...bull****, mi amigo. It's still in full swing. There are a few arrests made every year now, unlike past years where the cops were trying to get a peek too. Damn religious pricks. Even the girls serving drinks will have little signs on their tip jar like "$5 for a flash." Ya know I had to drop 10 in there. Two girls, both dolls, far be it from me to tell one that her boobs weren't worthy.

I may go this weekend and next just be a clown. Hit the casino while I'm down there. Should be fun.

One day, though, I'm getting a frickin' room down there. Maybe I'll reserve a room for 2010 Murder Gras next week.

Headed tyo Mardi Gras this weekend. NOt going to New Orleans though, too far and not enough money at the moment so I will go to the smaller one in Galveston (which still boasts about 500K people).

Ive been to both and the one in Galveston is not that bad...well...not anymore. It used to be just a center for thug control but the cops have really cleaned it up and got rid of the gangsters causing trouble.

Galviston is a nice city. My family might move there - if my dad gets relocated in Houston. I will stay here of course.

Ah........

Friday. The weekend before Fat Tuesday. The only time to hit Murder Gras.

The only problem is that Bourbon St has a tendency to look, well, pretty much like this gif: People on top of people. One million strong every year about this time.

I should really be resting up first, but bah! I still gotta get some stuff first.

Murder Gras '04 Finally.

No pics sadly, but it was off the chain yet again. Tamer these days than in the past, damn the luck, but still a blowout.

Tamer in the sense that you're not likely to see people screwing or getting head around any given corner.

The tit painting trend is in full swing now. Clubs had signs in the window reading "Get your boobies painted here!" As you can imagine, that's an interesting sight to behold.

I did Harrah's casino on the Friday night before Fat Tuesday. Tripled what I started with. Then blew every damn dime and then some the next night. Not a bad weekend, if I do say so myself.

Sounds like what I expected...I do have to attend that one of these years.

I like Harrah's there, although I didn't break the bank or anything, I did come out a bit ahead when there last fall, thanks to the slots

Man I'm looking forward to that Denver/Saints game there this fall...
