Default OT: Carnival Cruises - Caribbean

Going on a cruise in mid July. Will be stopping in Caymans, Roatan, Belize, and Cozumel. Port is Miami.

Anyways, never been on a cruise before. It's on the Carnival Valor (4.5 stars on the web reviews).

Anyone been on cruises have advice and suggestions?

What's inclusive and what's not inclusive?

Also will be staying a few extra days in Miami, any great suggestions of things to do there?

And for those that want pics, this is who I'm going with:

Not a huge fan of cruises, but I'd certainly enjoy going with her!

That's pretty cool. I don't think many people get to go on cruises with Tommy Lee Jones.

I just took that very Cruise in March with Carnival, but did it on the Legend-have you been on a Cruise before?

If you haven't, here's a few notes off of the top of my head-I love Grand Cayman, and there's lots to do-don't miss Stingray City, and the Turtle Farm (Sea Turtles) is great too.

Cozumel, to me, is so over commericalized that it's no fun anymore-they had a Hurricane there a few Years ago-not the same as it was.

Belize is cool, but it is an undeveloped Country (Port)-don't miss the zip line-

Roatan-man, I remember them telling us that it gets to 115 degrees in July there, and the humidity is off the charts which is why we went in March-look for the Rabbits there they are weird-

You will be charged for a Tip everyday, and depending on how much you drink it can get expensive (my Bar Bill was almost $500)-Shore Excursions are not included, as well as any pictures they take-lots of Cuise experiences here:

Hope you got a Balcony-

Any chance we can get a picture from Tommy Lee Jones' perspective?

Awesome, thanks man.

No I actually haven't been on a cruise before.

Disappointed by what you said about Cozumel. Haven't been there in almost 20 years and was really looking forward to it.

If you can think of/remember/ask who you went with for any further details and ideas for us, it'd be greatly appreciated.

sneak your booze of choice in your checked luggage. Buy one of the soda things (its not inclusive on the ships) and pour your own. You will save a ton.

Everything is inclusive except for booze and stuff off the ship. They give you a card which is your key and you charge stuff on it, as nothing on the ship takes cash. Be careful with that as that bill at the end of the week could give you a heart attack...oh yeah dont get drunk on the free champagne at the art auction..you too may convince yourself you CAN afford that Rembrandt.

as for Miami..go to South Beach and check out all the freaks..even the mannequins in the windows have huge boobs.

Nikki Beach in SoBe.....although it has gone down from what it used to be. I currently have been spending more time drinking at the Clevelander.

Course you are bringing sand to the beach so my recs will not be of the highest value to you.

Rev,

Don't know what you (and your girl) like to do, but don't forget to analyze the Shore excursion list on the Carnival website-

At the end of the Cruise, they offered a new Service to take your Bags to the Airport Terminal withouht you having to lug them-we liked that.

You will have the option of Dining in the Dining Room in the back of the Ship in the evenings- if you already haven't, we liked the late seating (you might get back later after a Shore excursion), and we made friends with the people at the Tables all around us-you will be assigned a table, which we liked. If you don't like this option there is many other choices-there will be two formal nights if you eat in the formal Dining Room, so don't forget to take a Suit (and I took a Sports Jacket)-

Have you already booked your Rooms? If you haven't try to get either in the middle of the Ship (less movement), or just below the Verandah deck (close to Food, Drink)-watch out if they book your Room under a Dance Floor, however-

There will be opportunities for Formal Pictures-actually, a ton of pictures-depends on whether you want the memories or not-

If you can (or haven't), I cannot express how much nicer having a Balcony was-you can watch the Ocean go by at Sunset, see things better in Port, and even have a little fun on it (don't ask me how I know)-

Room Service is available 24 Hours, but they will expect a Tip (no charge for the Food)-

All in all it was the best Cruise my Wife and I have ever had-IMHO, Cruises are like going on a date-if you go into them with the attitude that you are gong to enjoy it, you probably will-if you don't, it won't-

Hmmm... should've posted this before booking.

Got an oceanview room. Didn't even think of the balcony. Feeling like a heeb right now (no offense, jewish friends).

I can't seem to find this "shore excursion list"... any chance you remember?

I've heard there's a mayan tour at one of the stops... that's a must see for me. Been to Chichinitza and Machu Pichu (sp?) and loved those trips.

At Cozumel you will have to take a Ferry to get to the mainland (about 45 minutes as I recall?)-Tulum is cool-watch out on that one, however they will take you to a Jewelry Store on the way-

Remember, what I like you may not, so you may really like Cozumel (I think I've just been there too many times)-

I am going to be on the Carnival Valor leaving on the 27th of July. Also my first cruise, we are going for our honeymoon. Can't wait, I heard you eat, drink and eat some more. I think we will also try to work some balcony action in there somewhere.

I might be a little biased because I really did not enjoy my cruise but...

When you go to board your cruise they will ask for a credit and give you a "fun Card, "Ship Card" etc. From experiance there is a much different feeling using your fun card to pay for a round of shots than it is using YOUR credit card. Becareful cause the drinks charges get racked up fast. I was on a 4 day cruise and my bill at the end that they nicely slid under my door while sleeping off said drinks was 900-1000 dollars.

Your first hour or so of your trip you will sit down with an orange dingy around your neck as they explain to you that if the ship goes down this thing will probably not save your life. (Sarcastic!) It does take awhile though.

Take advantage of the day trips they are expensive and if your adventerous you can get them for cheaper when you dock at a location.

Like I mentioned I didnt like being told to be back at the ship at this time or if I brought alchol back to the ship they would "store" it for me (See Fun Card charges above) I almost always go on all inclusive vacations but decided to switch it up a bit, I think Ill stay with my all inclusives.

Dude... one week earlier and we would've been on the same trip... that would've been strange.
