My imagination had me in circles. My view of Korea was bad, because of all the rumors. I wanted on a deployment to the desert and they sent me on a deployment to Korea (I wanted the money the desert would bring).

Now let me say this, Korea is by far the best place I have ever been. I am very fond of the transportation, the scenery, and of coarse the women. I am so glad I have been given the opportunity to travel around the world (I've been to Kuwait and Japan). Before having the chance to deploy to Korea for 6 months, I never considered myself wanting to come here. I was told the bases suck and everyone turned into alcoholics. Everyone kept saying how it is boring and all there is to do is drink and pay for sex from the juicy girls.

I am in love with this place. I love jumping on a train for less than $2 and just going to random cities, walking around, meeting different people. I enjoy when Koreans walk up to me and try to practice their English by introducing themselves or just saying "Hi".

I am not too fond of the food. I stay away from seafood/fish and usually hate to try different things. I wish I wasn't such a picky eater.

I wish I could stay longer than 6 months. If I could extend into the deployment, I most likely would. Who knows, I may even try to get this place after my time in Japan.

There is no point to this post, all I am saying, if you have the chance.. try top visit Korea.

Its great getting out and seeing the world, aint it. There are lotsa places to go and see great women, too. Have fun.

Very true. I have always traveled. I think I have an itch for doing so, because we constantly moved when I was younger. I have always loved seeing different places.

I couldn't have it any other way.

Where are you stationed? I was at Camp Humphreys and in Tongduchon on the DMZ. I loved my tour in Korea. Be sure to visit the northeastern portion of the country. It is the most isolated from the western world. VERY INTERESTING PLACE!
Ya don't like the food

WTF? Try some Kaigogi (sp),

and see if it bark at ya when ya bite into it.

I am at Suwon AB. Got tasked to come up here with a TDC unit to set up initial comm.

I haven't been down south yet, I am hoping to go that direction in a few weeks. I mostly go up to Seoul and walk around. I also go to a newly opened Japanese curry house (CoCo's) in Gangnam.

As for dog, I will pass. The good thing about dog, is that it's very expensive. I know I will not accidentally eat it.

I am trying to learn Korean. It is very tough, although everyone says English is harder. Hopefully I will meet a Korean woman that will teach me something.

Suwon AB is right outside of Seryu Station. It was an Air Force base back in the Korean war, but since then, ROKAF and Army have been using it. Looks like Air Force is taking it over.

I love Korean women. By far the best race of women (imo)! I had Coworkers telling me I will end up marrying one during the deployment, I laughed it off and said I was not interested in Korean women. I landed in Incheon and my jaw dropped. I swear there 3 out of 5 look like models.

I love how the women actually care about their appearance, unlike other places.

I certainly want to stay here longer, I am enjoying myself.

I was stationed down at Taegu (K-2) AB. I never wanted to go to Korea, but ended up loving it. Went kihing quit a bit in the mountains around the city. I esp loved the Soju...

Tell me you have at least tried Bolgoki and Yaki-Mandu.

I've had Bulgogi in the past. I first tried it when I went to Kuwait and they made it at some on base restaurant. I tried it again when I go back to my home station and hated it, I haven't tried it since.

As for Yaki Mandu, I haven't tried it yet, I enjoy the Japanese style more (Goyza). I don't think I would like it fried.

I am enjoying my time here. Other people spend it in a drunken state of mind, which is dumb. They are hitting on the cheap filipina juicy girls instead of the beautiful Korean women.

No f-ing doubt. I still have a photo of me doing a pre-flight on the tarmac at Peyonteac with the temps @ 20 below and the wind gusting in the 40s. Nice Day for a f-ing polar bear.

RE: Yaki mandu. Hit the street vendors. it may not look sanitary

, but it's awesome grub.

RE: Korean women. I didn't marry one while stationed there, but am now married to one. My wife is half Korean and half American Indian. Great woman, as long as you don't "piss her off".

No shlt. When were you at Taegu? Had some buddies up there from May '01-Dec '01.

I really enjoyed Taegu the few days I was there. Went into a korean dance club and the dudes are dancing with the dudes and the girls are dancing together. I asked a girl to dance and her face about turned bright red.

Really miss that place sometimes.

I was on a train and these 3 girls were all checking me out, no clue how old they were, but they seemed too young. I would just glance over at them and they would all kinda get nervous and smile.

I was at Taegu from Oct 01 until Oct 02. What were your buddies names, and AFSC? I was the Weapons (462) QAP down there, great job.

***Update***

Korea is STILL amazing. I am enjoying myself more and more as days pass. I am actually depressed to leave this place. I have met some good people and will never forget my time here.

One of the most memorable things I did while I was in Korea was attend the Boryeong Mud Festival. Daecheon Beach brings in tons of mud and 80,000 people (throughout the week) attend the event and get covered in mud and drink all day. They say the mud is good for the skin, I am not sure if it helped. It was an awesome weekend, and if I could attend again, I most certainly would.

Tomorrow I am going to the Jisan Rock Festival in Icheon-Si at the Jisan Forest Resort. Some of the known bands there are Weezer, Fall Out Boy, and Jimmy Eat World (all playing on Friday). Oasis is playing on Sunday, but I'll be there Friday only. This should add on to my Korea experience. I will be returning to Korea, I know that much.

Glad to hear you are having a great time. Have a fun time at the Festival. I'm thinking of becoming an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher after I graduate in the Spring over in Korea. Great way to travel the world and go to a place where the women are fine. . . and a culture I'm interested in. Cheers, RT!

Jisan Rock Fest was pretty awesome. No matter where you go, people know how to rock out. I really enjoyed seeing Jimmy Eat World, Fall Out Boy and Weezer. I even heard some awesome korean rock!

If you have the opportunity to come here, do it. Just immerse yourself into their culture and you will start to love it. When I first arrived to Korea I thought their food looked disgusting and did not want anything to do with it. After I met a girl, I started eating more and more of the korean food, it turned out to be very delicious!

I have two more years back in Japan until my enlistment with the Air Force is up. I am still not sure if I want to reenlist, but if I do, I want to come back to Korea for a few years. Even if I decide to get out, I think the first place I look for a job will be Korea, hopefully with the Air Force as a GS/Contractor.

OGI--I was in teagu as a Cop from may 01-Nov 01 when we stood up the 607th MMS. I was also at Osan with Dirty. PM me if ya wanna talk over K-2 or henery/walker. We used to go down to Yongpuk University and there were like 500 little clubs and bars for the college kids. We did pretty well for ourselves. Once though I went down there with two buddies during the confederations cup the year before the ROK hosted the world cup. Anyway we pretended to be Australian soccer players until we got ripped off. Apparantly Australia wasn't playing in Korea then. Hehehehehe!

Sol Gharbi, dessi gharbi, Udong noodles, super mandu, Tonsu Yok, Pokimbop all fantastic dishes washed down of course with a Hite Stout or OB. Maybe even a little of the Jinro green bottle soju. Am I making you guys miss it?

I cannot eat a lot of the kimchi out here, maybe I can get used to it, but right now it's so hard to eat.

Korean food is starting to grow on me, I have been enjoying more korean dishes, mostly because my girlfriend takes me to some places.

One food I will not eat again is kim bap. I cannot stand the taste of the seaweed wrap.
