No I won't. I generally don't participate in these "Top whatever" lists when it comes to this area, because (for me anyways) it's an impossible task.

My top 3 are easy:

TOOL
System of a Down
Nine Inch Nails

There is a lot of competition for the last two spots and it changes, depending on my mood. Rage Against the Machine, Deftones, Pink Floyd, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Incubus, Red Hot Chili Peppers, A Perfect Circle, and Slipknot all have been listed in my top 5.

Fair enough. But of my list who is regarded in the music community and good and who is crappy? I already know your opinion of Journey, so what about the other four?

Well, for one, I hardly speak for any type of "music community"....it's been my experience that there's really no such thing when you get right down to it.
That said, The Beatles are pretty much undebatable and The Police have aged very well IMHO (Sting was never as good again) I'll pass on the rest, but I will say if you thought I was bad when it came to Journey, you don't wanna be around when I get into it with a "Bono is Jesus" U2 guy

Bono the man annoys me too, but I like most of U2's old stuff. I felt good about the Beatles, but wasn't 100% sure how you'd feel about them. As for the Police, I thought for sure you were going to rip them up.

What are your thoughts on Guster, by the way? Have you listened to their "Lost and Gone Forever" album? I'm not really aware of anyone else ever having heard of them before. They play their worst songs on the radio, which is unfortunate because that's the band people come to know.

And just for giggles have you ever listened to They Might Be Giants?

You ca't really with what you do .... plus you're exposed to so many bands, it'd be hard for you to whittle down even to a Top5.

But I do know you're partial to Vanilla Fudge and Foghat.

Not to mention rock covers a wide array of bands.

But it's still fun to see what type of bands other posters like.

For instance I can't stand Nirvana, grunge rock to me is depressing and monotone in it's nature.

I for one like to here more intricate chord changes and see horns used so I really like the big horn bands like Steely Dan and Tower of Power. TOP more soul music but IMO it's all rock. If it's not Jazz, not Classical, then it's some form of Rock. I guess Reggae could maybe be another one.

I did Bob Marley and the Wailers, I would probably add them to my five now that I have thought about it.

Rep for Blue Oyser Cult. 'Cities Aflame with Rock & Roll' is one of my favorites. Another I should add that nobody has mentioned is:
Bachman Turner Overdrive (B.T.O.)

I put Chicago on to but not because of the stuff they did in the 80's and on. It's for the great albums they made with Terry Cath at lead guitar and vocals. Once he was dead they lost their edge and got all sweet and disgusting.

My favorite song Mississippi Mud.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-LoRtUB510

Supposedly Jimmy Hendrix said Terry Cath them most amazing player he ever heard. Listen to him close and you will see just how unique of a lead guitar he was. He was a special musician, too bad he shot himself.

Here is a link to a video for those of you that aren't hip to what a great singer/lead guitar player he was. He influenced Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimmy Hendrix and IMO you can totally see his style in those 2 great players style.

Boy was bearable, standard issue new wave circa 1980. With "Gloria" and each subsequent release since then, they became more and more "self" (as in self-rightous, self-indulgent and full of self-importance). They were attempting to be like a spiritual Clash, but without the in depth political sensibilities that that band had in spades.....it sold well, but it didn't really work. It was more strident and bombastic than spiritual.

I've never heard the Guster album in question. I've actually have had very little exposure to them, so I really have to pass without comment.

I didn't mind They Might Be Giants.

I don't know about the '89 Grammy's (I was 8 years old) but I suppose Jethro Tull could fit into Jazz as well. He played some with Zeppelin (recorded in the same studio and I think had the same agent for a while), but didn't get along with Jimmy Page very well (he was too critical of Page).
