Those Z1's were nice no doubt, except you slid off the seat and had to hang onto the handlebars. Those stock seats were not gonna keep you on the bike.

Here's a front pic of a 1979 Honda CBX:

Now, that's an engine. It was an instant collector's item because it was a straight six. I checked E-bay again and two of the three I saw for sale two days ago are now gone.

Matter of fact, Honda got so pissed off that Kawasaki came out with the Z900's, that's why they built the CBX. Then Kawasaki got pissed off, so they built the Z1300. Ah, the good old days.

The sweetest bike I've heard since the CBX is the Ducati 900's. I can tell that bike from two miles away by the engine note. It has an unmistakable roar.

Where are you finding Cobras that run 15's?

Even the first year (1993) Cobra's ran in the mid to low 14's and they've only got faster since that point. Hell, even my GT ran high 14's with decent traction when it was stock. The 03-04 Terminators are mid to high 12 second cars factory stock.

And the only Z06's that run 13's were the very first year, and they ran 13 flat and getting faster every year.

Wow! DMG has ruined the Daytona 200.

None Superbikes (I know, not DMG's fault), rolling starts and a pace car?? The days of the Daytona 200 being one of the elite motorcycle races is the world is LONG gone!

Even in Colorado altitude you're not going to lose that much performance. In our Mustang club we had a guy move down from Colorado Springs and he only gained about 7/10ths of a second running at sea level.

The baddest SL of all was this, the 300SL. The 300SL won LeMans in 1954 I believe it was. There's still quite a few of them on the road, most were wrecked. The insurance is astronomical:

No way Cobras run 15's, unless they have the bad driver mod.

Im my Harley F-150 4 door truck with stock 20 inch tires at 34 lbs I cut a 2.2 60, 9.1 1/8th, 14.1 @ 98.8 in the qtr mile. This was in Ennis Tx. And talk about heavy, the thing weighs over 4600 lbs!

yeah some of the old carbs you had to adjust the jets , but that was just to get the damn thing to run right ......

This is a 1965 220Sb, the best Mercedes I ever owned. It wasn't the fastest, but just a superb machine. 2.2L I6 with dual 2bbl Solex carbs. Factory sunroof, 4 wheel independent suspension, 4 speed on the column, front discs, positraction RWD, huge trunk, 5 passenger car. It was a 4-speed manual shift, that's the big deal, and that car could do 110 all day long easily. Of all the cars I've owned, that was my favorite. The big deal was the manual shift, that was the only Mercedes I owned with a manual shift.

How often do you see an I6 with dual 2bbl carbs, 4 wheel independent suspension, positraction, 4 spd manual, factory sunroof, front disc brakes, carries five passengers, huge trunk? Not often, this car is one of the few. And it was no candyass. The acceleration from 70-110 was superb. Sweet car.

I'm not gonna rag you for what you ride, but well, hmmm, ahem, I think BMW can do better than that. Ahem, errr, with all due respect that bike looks like it can't handle at all. Doesn't look like much of a road machine. Looks like a two-wheel Winnebago, with all due respect.

Really not knocking your BMW they do ride nice !!! It's just I'm old school and I drive a Ford Truck, ride a Harley and my wife drives a Cadillac. It's doesn't mean much but it's my way keeping some of it here. It just wouldn't feel right to put on a leather jacket that had "Yamaha" on the back!!!

Just messing with you a little bit, with all due respect of course. I like the ultimate machines. I'm a big fan of the high-revving Japanese bikes for road performance, I also like the BMW boxers for their balance. The BMW R65LS I had was also a good offroad machine, that bike went places that would be surprising to many people. I could ride the pegs and manipulate that bike over big rocks. Dry clutch and shaft drive, that's a big deal. The Harleys are too one-dimensional for me. But to each his own, eh?

Love the SL's. I don't think you can go wrong with any year....though the Gullwing would have been the crown jewel.

True, neither were built for practicality. Although, the Vette's trunk isn't too bad, it just didn't come with a spare.

Yup, the SL's are superb machines no matter the year. A long line of badass luxury machines. That's a fast smooth one you bought. Superb machine.

The rolling start was nessasary due to the field of ~75. Way to many to start from a stop.

Daytona still has its mystique but I wouldn't call it an elite race either.

I still had a great time at the first running of the 200 under the lights and the motocross the next night. Was a fun weekend.

What's the normal total? 75 sounds liike too many.
