Man, The Grateful Dead on a 105 degree night in Vegas in May 1994. This video of Peggy O stars Jerry, two months before his death. If you can make it to 2:00, Jerry's guitar solo is hauntingly beautiful. Last edited by bombay; 02-11-2009 at 11:30 AM.. |

Just an hour ago I listened about 10 times each to:
"Overkill" by Men at Work ... the acoustic version from the show "Scrubs." . . . . . and .... "Wham, Bam, Shang-a-Lang," a 70s tune by a band called Silver: |

Which only makes sense as the original keyboardist, Vince Welnick, committed suicide a few years back and the feud between guitarist Bill Spooner and the band is very well known. No matter though, the band is highly theatratical and even if you don't care for the music (which is challenging beyond the hits) they will make you laugh. Fee Waybill doing his caberet act is even funnier now (albeit in a kinda sad way) given that the guy is in his 60's. Personally, I'd love to see them but have never had the chance. Lemme know how it goes if you could. |

I'll let you know what I think of the show, Hogan, although I'm not sure what I'll be able to identify, being really unfamiliar with this band, generally speaking. I'll make sure to listen to this song and keep an ear out for it.

Awesome! You know I've tried to get you onto them. Your thoughts? To me, one of the best bands out there.

Have the new one as well and am very happy with it (My Bloody Underground) Travelling out to Cleveland to see them at the end of March and expectations are off the charts for that show. GBV's was one of those bands I always liked but never got any of the material of for one reason or another. I've been correcting that since 2007 and have to agree with you on Pollard....probably the most talented drunk I've heard this side of Jim Morrrison. I mentioned the Rainy Day Saints earlier, the head man in that outfit (Dave Swanson) played drums with Cobra Verde, which backed up Pollard as GBV for the Mag Earwig album (I Am A Tree). He told me a few stories about Pollard. He's very booze oriented apparently and hard to work with, especially for someone who doesn't drink (like Dave). Interesting stuff nonetheless, very melodic, kinda hard to believe that it never got beyond a cult status. |

These guys are pretty solid. Check 'em out if you like southern-tinged indie stuff. You'll be glad you did.
I'll preface this by saying that they are playing in a record store here...not much for sound. They are typically very good live...the sound fills a room...drummer and bass player are very good for this type of music. Dove Hunter |

Here's one for the alt-rock historians...
These guys formed in NY and moved to Dallas. They were a power trio of immense proportions...GREAT live band. They were some good luck away from breaking it. Excellent stuff from some nice guys. I have read critical acclaim of Secret Machine's live stuff, and UFOFU were every bit as powerful. The bass player Brandon and drummer Ben went on to form Secret Machines with another local guy from a band called Comet. Ben played with Tripping Daisy for awhile until the band lost their guitar player to heroin. Check out the tracks "The Thing of it Is", "Legendary Microwave", and "The Skies Magnify Me."
