Default So how do you feel about Fassel coaching the Faiders?

Jim Fassel has stepped up his campaign to become an NFL head coach again in the most interesting of ways.

A team source tells ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen that Fassel recently sent a handwritten letter to Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis, expressing his respect and admiration for Davis and his desire to coach the embattled franchise.

Fassel last worked in the league as offensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens from 2003 until his dismissal midway through the 2006 season. He was head coach of the New York Giants from 1997 until the team fired him after the 2003 season.

Fassel was 60-56-1 in seven seasons with the Giants and led the club to a Super Bowl XXXV appearance against Baltimore. He had two interviews with the Washington Redskins last offseason before owner Daniel Snyder ultimately decided to hire Jim Zorn as his coach.

Al Davis on Kiffin firing

Raiders owner Al Davis explains his reasons for firing coach Lane Kiffin in his September News Conference.

Lane Kiffin was fired by Davis on Sept. 30 after Oakland started 1-3, with the job going to offensive line coach Tom Cable on an interim basis. The Raiders are 1-4 under Cable. Kiffin, meanwhile, has filed a grievance against Davis in an attempt to collect the remaining money on his contract.

The upheaval within the coaching staff has yet to abate. Davis, it turns out, stripped offensive coordinator Greg Knapp of play-calling duties, a source told Mortensen. Cable said last week that he relieved Knapp of his duties before a Week 10 loss to the Carolina Panthers and would remain in that role for the rest of the season.

That would be good for the Broncos, another failure as coach to the Faiders.

I agree, to WANT to coach the raiders is an extreme act of desperation...

What kind of a ball sucker do you have to be to write a letter of admiration to Al Davis?

What I'm trying to figure out is how Al Davis is going to be able to keep this team going.

He has to be going broke. People aren't going to games, people aren't buying their merchandise, and we all know what he's done to their salary cap.

Even really bad teams IE Detroit have new stadiums that keep people coming. Oakland doesn't even have a decent facility.

Add in a failing economy and my gut says the Raiders will be for sale soon.

The guy really wants a job. He's barely above .500 for his coaching career. He's going to be under that by the time he's done with the Raiders.

The Raiders should still be making money because of revenue sharing. They get a nice fat check from the league, who they hate, every year. TV money alone should keep them in business.

Would the Faid be better in LA than the Sparkies? If one goes to LA, where does the other go? San Antonio?

Would that lead to a realignment of the Leagues again?

They need to look up some of his old after game interviews, he probably has some good Coors Light material.

Hey coach, someone took all our Coors Light!

They could put parcells in there and still suck the x factor is al davis and he is the raiders problem so you could plug any coach in there and it wouldn't work.

Fassel has gone INSANE! Why on Earth would anyone actually BEG
Al Davis for a job?

But since Fassel is ALMOST credible as a coach, I don't want Davis to hire him. They do have some talent and sooner or later someone is going to do something with it.

He should hire Greg Robinson....I hear he's out of a job and Davis could have complete control of the offense (like now). Best for us.

Why shouldn't GR get paid like every other HC that Davis hires and fires. Its like being a free agent .....go to Oaklannd and get paid before you get out of the league...or don't get out and take it out on the Raiders for 15-20 years!
