If it's the same show that was here last week, there are two opening bands - Stills, who were not bad, and We Are Scientists, who were bad. JMO, of course. Kings of Leon were worth the wait.

I love good live music, so I hope that they can put something nice together for us. It sucks when you show up to players that arent excited about playing. It also sucks when they suck. It really sucks when the headliner plays an hour or less. Band of Horses played for a little under an hour when I saw them last. Fun live stuff, but you need to play to the price of the ticket. Kids in that building paid 30+ bucks for that show. |

The key to shows where the band is relatively new and short on material is to have strong supporting acts. The Stokes had barely an hours worth of material off their first two records when I saw them, but they brought The Sounds on tour with them, so that made up for their short set. |

It's Halloween themed....I never said it was going to be good
![]() I actually didn't mind 45 Grave all that much, but Dinah Cancer was always a horrible vocalist, even worse than X's Exene Cervenka (if that was humanly possible)...at the time she at least had looks going for her, 20+ years later, she's hagged out and half the band is dead. Scary stuff indeed. |

KOL were pretty strong. Their best song was easily "Charmer", which they closed the set list with. That song carries violence the same way that the Pixies' "Bone Machine" does, albeit with less raw emotion.
They played a solid long set, and the Palladium was sold out. Good for them. They need a better sound guy. The Matchless combos couldnt cut through, and that's a very bad thing. Those amps produce beautiful tones. The SVTs bounced off the walls with no probs though. My standard for this type of rock is Pixies, who I would say are a 10/10 in their prime in a club or a hall. I would give KOL a 7/10 on that night. With a more proficient sound man, it could have easily been 8/10. In 2-3 years (if they stick together) when the guys are more experienced, tighter, and have a catalogue with more excellent (as opposed to good) live tunes, they could really bring the place down. |
