Short and Simple!
I have a horrible TV and now looking into an HDTV (1080p). I was looking any where from 40-46 inches, most likely the low end, since i live in a dorm room. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've seen a few I like, however they are outrageous in price. |

I have a 46" Samsung and love it! They are a bit more pricey then some of the other models/makes thou.
If its was me putting one in a dormroom I'd just go with something cheap like a vizio from wal-mart. |

1080p is a bad idea for a dorm room. Period.
Having said that, for $200 more than the same sized Vizio, you can get this Samsung, which is rated very highly.....ridiculously good sale price for what you get IMO ($1099). http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Samsu...oductDetail.do Last edited by Beantown Bronco; 08-13-2008 at 01:45 PM.. |

We got a Sharp Aquos LC-46D82U
its a 1080p 46". We got it from a store that was closing it's doors so we got it new, with extended warrenty for $999.00 Keep in mind when you purchase an LCD what the recomended screen size is for your viewing area....how many max feet away you are for your screen size. Here's a good chart that was recommended to us: Screen size.........Viewing distance range 30"....................3.75-6.25 feet 34"....................4.25-7 feet 42"....................5.25-8.75 feet 50"....................6.25-10.5 feet 56"....................7-11.75 feet 62"....................7.75-13 feet 70"....................8.75-14.75 feet |

Something's fishy there. Best Buy is selling that tv for $2,599 not counting the warranty and Circuit City has it on ridiculous clearance right now for $1,599 before warranty. It has to be either stolen out of the back of a truck or a refurb that they lied about to get it down to that price.

I was thinking of something along the lines of this bad boy. Click Here
It's expensive, but looks sharp. |

If that price is still a little high, they also have a really nice 46 inch 1080P set that is getting great reviews for $1699. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sony-...oductDetail.do |

If you are doing blu-ray and high def stuff, its been recommended that you get a 46" or bigger... I don't know where I saw that.

Too be honest, I wasn't much into TV, unless it was to play Wii. I finally got sick of watching movies on my Computer (22" monitor) I am going to Japan in Mid-September and that's when I plan on purchasing a new TV. Right now i'm trying to scope some things out, reviews, advice, etc.. edit: This brings up another issue, are TV's usually dual power? I believe I was told aafes usually sells "dual power" TV's, but if i bought from an outside store now, would it work (probably not)? Last edited by Ratboy; 08-13-2008 at 06:40 PM.. |

When I was a kid living in Germany we had to have transformers all over the house, but that was back in 92, so that could be different now.

Sweet, I actually talked to someone who was there for a few year (and was raised there) and they said the power is the same as it is in United States.
I plan on going out soon and look at a few TV's. |
