Default The: What the heck are you doin' up at this hour thread.

I was just sitting here asking myself that question, and I figured it might turn into one of those "classics".

For those who peruse these pages after midnight.

I'm up studying for a roadway design and spec test tomorrow. I must have lost my friggin mind.

I work nights four days a week....10 hour shifts. I get paid $$$ for sleep deprivation and have been doing it for well over a year now.

I did the night shift decades ago during powerplant shut-downs. 7-12s for two months straight. All the oT was totally nuts, but the $$$$ were nice.

Man, you had better do it for the rest of your life. Because your days of being normal are over (relatively speaking, of course ).

I worked at the Utah State Mental Hospital when I was in college. I worked graveyard shift, as it allowed me to get a lot of studying done. I did it for a little over a year, and my body just permanently adjusted. Now, I could easily stay up all night, any night. I don't ever sleep without Ambien - been taking the same dose for over five years. And I am one miserable SOB most mornings. I don't really mind this, except for the fact that most people look at being a night owl as some sort of personal weakness. I have had lots of people in business make comments about it. Douchebags.

It's only been 17 years, though - so maybe I'm still adjusting.

Actually, there's a very good chance that my night time hours are over in two weeks.
