Back to the basics...
Frank Black - Cult of Ray While this wasnt Thompson's most popular effort, I believe that its packed full of excellent tracks. For the Black purist, this album has as many home runs as his first record. Cult really showcases Lyle Workman as one of the most creative and skilled "underground" rock guitar players of his era. From beginning to end, this album has always struck me as one of Thompson's best and most complete efforts. |

I forgot how big Mick's lips are. And even Keith looks mostly humanoid. It looks like Bill and Charlie were barely awake. I always thought Charlie looked like one of those marionettes from that underwater kid's show The Thunderbirds. This is what I've got in the car cd player right now: ![]() |

I was listening to "Some Girls" this morning, and came across that Youtube video a few hours later. I had no idea the Stones had even done a video for "Far Away Eyes."
Those lyrics still crack me up 30 years later. ![]() Quote:

Some Girls is a good album, but other than Mick, they look pretty bored doing that track....maybe that was the point. I'll take it over "Miss You" but I wouldn't take it over any other track on that release. Too bad it appears they are the only two songs off the album they did vids for at the time.

Still Queen, still stunned Freddie Mercury is a better friend to me than some I've known since Broncomania was still Broncomania, and never mind he's been dead since I was in HS.
Also: Buy, borrow or steal a copy of Neck and Neck. If you like Country: Chet Atkins. If you like Rock: Mark Knopfler. If you like jazz: Both. Last edited by Earendil; 07-22-2008 at 05:52 AM.. |

Just because this is a music thread..
Went down to Fiddler's Green tonight to see the kool concert. Ordinarily would avoid this sort of thing like the plague, but I was interested in seeing both Jack Bruce and Eric Burden. They played along with Badfinger, Melanie, and The Turtles. We missed Badfinger, arriving in time to see Melanie, unfortunately. After 20 minutes of annoying off key shrieking, she went away. Flo and Eddie (The Turtles), appeared to be half toasted, and were pretty effective comedically, and did what they do - vocals - reasonably well. They were funny. Jack Bruce did a half hour pure Cream set, and sounded damned good. His guitarist was excellent, and his voice is still very strong. Excellent show. He introduced the band, but I was unable to understand the names through the Fiddler's sound system. Eric Burden's voice is still remarkably powerful, and he truly put on an excellent 40 minute or so show. I was afraid we had wasted our time coming early on, but both Bruce and Burden were excellent. Good night of music. |
