I simply asked you to explain yourself and to elaborate with some specifics when you made the claim that Steve Perry had ripped Sam Cooke's sound and style.

Failing that, you responded by with the usual, snooty "it should be obvious to anyone who knows anything about music" kind of retort (and even suggested I must certainly be "tone deaf" if I didn't share your "expert" opinion.)

FYI, I don't begrudge anyone his or her opinion - however educated - when it comes to music.

I simply find it off-putting when people like you act as though your opinions or tastes are more than just opinions or tastes.
I've told you what I thought, I've explained to you why, even sited URL's of others who share the same opinion as I do....There's not much more I can do to try to help you understand them. I stand by my opinions and takes...if you find them off-putting, that's hardly my problem or concern. If what I write truly bothers you, then don't read my posts.

(You do understand how many musicians of various instruments, backgrounds, and styles that encompasses, right?)

Your exhibitions of musical knowledge and maturity just keep getting more impressive by the minute.

Oh I forgot, since I'm not a professional, session musician, I'm not entitled to an opinion on such things, much less music itself...my apologies

Well, I'm up for discussing anything I'm familiar with. Unfortunately, this devolved into the same stuff that has killed a couple of musicial discussion threads recently. It's just become posturing now for the most part and since there's really no place to go with that without it becoming a circular arguement, I'm out.

Didn't say you were not entitled to your opinion.

This is what I said:

That's the whole point:

I simply asked you to explain why you thought as you did, and instead of offering to explain yourself, you simply accused me of being uninformed and 'tone-deaf' and linked me to some other critic's review.

I have no problem with anyone not liking anything where music is concerned.

As the old adage goes, "in matters of taste, there can be no dispute."

What gets a little obnoxious after awhile is this:

"Rocky Road is awesome - Vanilla Swiss Almond sucks!"

"So you're saying you like Rocky Road but you don't care for Vanilla Swiss Almond?"

"No, man, I'm saying Vanilla Swiss Almond sucks - and if you don't agree with me, then either your taste buds are defective or you just don't know ice cream."

("And to prove I'm right, I can link you to a whole bunch of other ice cream connoisseurs on the Internet who agree with me.")

This is no where near as obnoxious as the "I make ice cream for a living and unless you know the entire process and every ingredient that goes into making the ice cream, you have virtually no right to say what flavors in your opinion are good or bad" attitude.

Fester in peace, I'm out.

How does one have an argument to which there is no argument?

That is basically what you are trying to do here, and all I'm doing is giving you some good advice by giving this one up.

If there is no argument, then why did you say "you should give this argument up?"

And if you were actually following this discussion, then you would realize that my position was "in matters of taste there can be no dispute."

Hogan, on the other hand, suggests that anyone who doesn't share his musical opinions must be "tone deaf" or just plain uninformed.

Um, no.

What you are doing here is stumbling into a thread/discussion you obviously haven't taken the time to read and trying to play moderator.

I advise you to give that up.

Believe me, I've read the thread and all there is to this "argument" is you agreeing to disagree with Hogan and keeping the schtick up much longer than you should've.

Just stop, please.

Um, actually there's a little more to it than that, but if you are unable to comprehend what it is, then there's probably not much more I can do to help you.
