i hate the penguins, but it wont take them that long to dispose of the sens, they flat out suck wihtout alfie, who may still be feeling sore from getting his "bell" rung
10 bucks says alwilson is nowhere to be seen shooting his mouth off till september. or at least not during this series cuz it aint gonna be pretty. since ottawas 19-2 start they are like 25-30- 6 or something like that they have sucked since holloween. |

I never liked sweeping in a series, too much idle time can make a team lose momentum hopefully that doesn't happen.

Malkin nears new deal with Penguins Not interested in jumping to new league in Russia
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08173...d=penguins.xml OTTAWA -- Sidney Crosby gave the Penguins a hefty discount when he accepted a contract worth an average of $8.7 million per season last summer. Evgeni Malkin, however, is prepared to give them one that will dwarf Crosby's gesture. Several teams in the new Continental Hockey League in Russia reportedly plan to offer Malkin a deal that would pay him roughly $12.5 million, tax-free, per season, making Malkin the highest-paid hockey player in the world. Nonetheless, Malkin apparently is intent on remaining with the Penguins, who are expected to give him a five- or six-year deal worth $8.5 million per season. |

Penguins re-sign Eaton, Dupuis, agree to extension with Malkin Tuesday, July 01, 2008 By Dave Molinari, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette The Penguins have agreed to terms on a two-year contract with free-agent defenseman Mark Eaton. The deal is believed to be worth $1 million annually. They also have worked out a new contract for center Evgeni Malkin. Although Malkin's deal has not been formalized, it will be patterned after Sidney Crosby's contract, running five years and including an annual salary-cap hit of $8.7 million. Eaton joined the Penguins as a free agent two years ago, and lived up to his reputation as an outstanding shot-blocker and penalty-killer. He was an effective partner for Sergei Gonchar, but missed significant parts of both seasons because of injuries. He had a knee surgically rebuilt after he was injured in December, but said he should be fully recovered by the start of training camp. The Penguins made their first free-agent signing late this morning, when they agreed to a three-year deal with forward Pascal Dupuis. The contract is worth an average of $1.4 million per season. Dupuis was acquired from Atlanta in the Marian Hossa deal Feb. 26, and became a valuable and versatile member of the Penguins' supporting cast. Dupuis had two goals and 10 assists in 16 regular-season games, then added two goals and five assists in 20 playoff appearances. Dupuis was one of 10 unrestricted free agents the Penguins had when the day began. The remaining eight are now officially able to entertain contract offers from the other 29 NHL teams, although the Penguins haven't ruled out trying to re-sign at least a few. The Penguins owned exclusive negotiating rights to those players -- forwards Jarkko Ruutu, Georges Laraque, Adam Hall, Jeff Taffe, Kris Beech and Hossa, defenseman Brooks Orpik and goalie Ty Conklin -- until noon, at which time the league's labor agreement gave them clearance to seek work elsewhere. Hossa, widely regarded as the top forward available in free agency, is expected to attract a number of big-money offers, with unconfirmed reports suggesting he could receive proposals featuring an average salary of as much as $10 million. Orpik figures to generate a lot of interest around the league, too, and some projections have him in line for offers worth $4 million or more per season. The Penguins are allowed to coninue negotiating with those two, as well as their other free agents, and are believed to still have offers on the table. More details in tomorrow's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. First published on July 1, 2008 at 11:41 am |

NHL Notebook: Malone signs deal for 7 years with Lightning Roberts locks up 1-year contract with Tampa Tuesday, July 01, 2008 From wire dispatches The Tampa Bay Lightning signed former Penguins left winger Ryan Malone to a seven-year contract yesterday. Malone was acquired from the Penguins along with Gary Roberts, who signed a one-year deal also with Tampa Bay, Saturday in exchange for a conditional draft pick in 2009. Malone played in 77 games with the Penguins last season, scoring 27 goals with 51 points. The Lightning also signed forward Vinny Prospal to a multiyear deal. Canadian sports channel TSN reported Sunday night that Malone's deal would be worth $35.1 million. Tampa Bay also acquired the rights to forward Brian Rolston, another player who could become an unrestricted free agent today, from Minnesota Sunday and was trying to work out a contract with him. Roberts, a three-time NHL All-Star, had three goals and 15 points with 40 penalty minutes in 38 games last season. He has played in 1,194 career games with Calgary, Carolina, Toronto, Florida and the Penguins, recording 434 career goals and 903 points. Tampa Bay acquired the rights to Prospal June 18 in return for two draft picks. He played in 62 games with the Lightning last season, picking up 29 goals and 57 points before being traded to Philadelphia Feb. 25. Also, the Lightning obtained minor league defenseman Janne Niskala from the Flyers for a sixth-round draft pick in 2009. Avalanche Colorado re-signed Adam Foote to a two-year contract and John-Michael Liles to a four-year deal. Foote appeared in 12 regular-season games and 10 playoff games for the Avalanche last season after he was acquired from Columbus Feb. 26. Between Columbus and Colorado last season, he had one goal, 15 assists and 107 penalty minutes in 75 games. Sabres Buffalo rewarded Paul Gaustad for his hard-hitting style, re-signing this blue-collar center to a four-year, $9.2 million contract. Also, the Sabres have opened contract talks with Ryan Miller in a bid to sign the star goaltender to a lucrative long-term deal this summer, well before he can become an unrestricted free agent after next season. Miller is scheduled to make $3.5 million in the final year of his contract this season. Sharks San Jose re-signed forward Jody Shelley to a two-year contract, keeping its top enforcer after acquiring him in a trade last season from the Blue Jackets. Flyers Philadelphia got defenseman Tim Ramholt from the Flames for left winger Kyle Greentree, and traded defenseman Janne Niskala to Tampa Bay for a sixth-round draft pick in '09. With Hossa now in Detroit, I'm thinking the Pens NEED to sign Orpik, Jagr and/or Demitra. People at Lets Go Pens are fast approaching their shower rods.
