Apart from his session and sideman work, Mike has been involved in a lot of original projects covering a pretty wide range of genres - everything from jazz/fusion to Hendrixy blues rock to alternative. If "Born in the Rain" is more your taste, then you might want to check out Mike's band "Burning Water" (total balls-to-the-wall Hendrix meets SRV on steroids.) If you're interested, I can hook you up with an FTP download (almost all of Burning Water's stuff is either out of print or hard to find these days.) (BTW, there are videos of Michelle Branch with Mike on guitar on the FTP server too, if I remember correctly.) If you're a fan of indie pop/rock, then you might also want to check out the band "Stolen Fish" (featuring Mike Landau and his wife Karen Martin.) http://cdbaby.com/cd/stolenfish2 Last edited by L.A. Oh, I was aware of him being a session guy and , as I said, I'm into Branch and have seen the Landau name associated with her before. That said, I'd be much more interested in his original projects than his session work. The Burning Water stuff you describe sounds very interesting to me and may hit you up for that download in the near future if'n you're still willing.
I'm not in a position to check out the Stolen Fish stuff yet, but I will. |

Been listening to a lot of Robyn Hitchcock lately. Without a doubt one of rocks more under appreciated geniuses.

Got The Doors Live In Pittsburgh 1970 in the mail the other day, but I haven't checked it out yet...it's a friggin' digipak, I hate those damn things.
In the meantime in the car, I've been playing The Church...great psychedelic jangle pop. |

"Mood Elevator", the awesome second studio disc from BURNING WATER (featuring axemaster supreme MICHAEL LANDAU on guitar), showcases 10 killer trax (49 minutes) of outstanding, powerful, dynamic, intense, bad-ass, bluesy, retro-70's Hendrix-inspired heavy guitar power trio grooves that will trip your brain hard. Michael Landau is one of the best guitarists in the world. Period. Definitely one of our favorite axemasters @ the Grooveyard. On the BURNING WATER: “Mood Elevator” disc, he waves his Hendrix-freak flag high with raw, gorgeous, passionate, brilliant guitar playing. His world class signature & explosive fretwork breathes fire with every note he plays. Michael Landau is an incredible technical monster with serious chops galore, tones & sounds, complete with an abundance of get-down, righteous Hendrix-ian bluesy feel. The man is a virtual modern-day white Hendrix. As an added bonus, and as tribute to Jimi, there is a passionate, deep, beautiful version of “Burning Of The Midnight Lamp” found on the “Mood Elevator” disc. BURNING WATER also features brother Teddy Landau on bass, Carlos Vega on drums & David Frazee on vox, all incredible players in their own rite who add magic to the organic, retro-70’s bluesy heavy guitar power trio grooves. The band digs in deep to produce their best/heaviest disc to date. |

We had been talking about k.d. lang and also Roy Orbison ... here's k.d. siging an Orbison classic. If you know of a better voice not named Streisand, Whitney or Celine, I'd sure like to know about it. And if you can make it through this without any goosebumps, you've a steelier constitution than I.
Besides, she must be sick talented ... how else could a vegetarian lesbian liberal make it in Nashville? ![]() |

I'm listening to Buddy Holly and the Crickets right now.
Music from that period is intensely powerful, IMO, for so many good reasons. |

LABF ... as truly astonishing as it is, there's one things that's always bugged me about their version: Beginning at 4:29, shouldn't Nancy be singing the echos: "bring it back ... bring it back ..."
They never do that and it always kinda bugs me. That's the first time I've seen them use drums on that one, too. They sound great, but the purity of the duo always struck me deeper. Quote:
Sorry, man ... but that is kinda funny ![]() |
