Old School memories and nostalgia, Uniform and logo discussions, AFL history, too. The season after next is the 50th Anniversary of the AFL, and I'm hearing buzz that the league has big plans in the works - throwback uniforms and all forms of nostalgia.
Personally, I can't stand the disappearance of the awesome and beautiful colors and combos - for the sake of an explosion of black and navy in uniforms. SIXTEEN TEAMS have added black or navy in the past 17 years (Broncos Rams Chargers Seahawks Patriots Bills Titans Cowboys Texans Eagles Lions Cardinals Panthers Jaguars 49ers Buccaneers). . Memories . . . In 17 years, all of these classic uniforms have been junked for NAVY or BLACK: ![]() ![]() Last edited by BroncoBuff; 02-15-2008 at 09:51 PM.. |

Let's get one thing straight first: YES, I love uniform colors, designs and logos, and discuss them with passion. But NO, I'm not gay.
Okay, my first complaint: LSU wears white jerseys whenever they can, and this lowbrow form of artistic ecch-spression deprives us of one of the most beautiful color schemes in all sports: That purple and yellow-gold is so gorgeous you just want to jump in those colors and swim ... like a hottub after a long walk in the wintertime. And not only do the LSU uniform-nazi killjoys rob us of a this rare feast for the eyes whenever they can, they actually yielded to their primitive pagan superstitious urgings by actually petitioning the NCAA to drop the colors rule!: Quote:

COLORS are God's own artwork, uniform lovers. And "White" is the enemy.
For example, the Dolphins should NEVER wear white pants with white jerseys. Why? Because the aqua pants are goooorgeous! Don't even pretend I'm wrong ... Even the stupid chefs look better in their red pants with the urine-yellow trim. I'm not a huge fan of any color that comes straight out of the Crayola crayon Jumbo 8-pack box, but at least the Kansas Jayhawks and Houston Texans had the right idea when they decided to eschew boring in favor of a more exciting expression: I wanted to make a post of another gorgeous uniform combo our eyes have been criminally deprived of, but the Cleveland Browns are so artistically-impaired and sartorially-challenged, I can't even find one decent photo on the Internet of their resplendent Brown jersey over orange pants. It's a crying shame too, because that combo even rivals the LSU purple over yellow-gold. |

I love the Bucs old uni's but I guess it's the same story in Tampa with whomever owns that team these days. I love the old Patriots uni's as well..much better than the flying Elvis thing. Last edited by Hogan11; 01-17-2008 at 12:58 AM.. |

I suppose I understand a bit of superstition ... after all, the last game ever with those unis (before Dallas) was the traumatic wildcard Jax loss in Old Mile High in '96. I dunno what uniforms they're actually planning to wear in '09, Hogan, I've just heard that the league is planning to go all out for "AFL-50." It's coming up, soon, too ... 18 months from now. And I noticed something very weird this past weekend too: OUT OF THE BLUE, Fox formally referred to an AFL record as if they were incorporated into NFL records: When the Seahawks-Packers were 14-14 in the first quarter, they ran a screen chyron and Simms and Nantz said it's the highest 1st quarter output in a playoff game since 1968 Raiders vs. Oilers. That might not sound like much, but to me it might be a VERY big deal. Networks and media NEVER discuss and quote AFL records in the context of NFL stats ... they just never do it except as novelty. This however was a chyron (words) neatly spelled out. What's up with that? I'm starting a thread on this ^^^ in the main room before I forget. Last edited by BroncoBuff; 01-18-2008 at 10:36 AM.. |

If they go with the mid-60's one again and they go onsale online, I may just have to break down and get one of those bad boys personalized with the HOGAN #11 that has become widely recognized at various Broncos tailgates throughout the league ![]() |

Down here there isn't alot of love for the Bucs old uniforms, it's very rare for you to see any of the "throwback" memorbila or hear any fans have nice things to say about them. I do agree with you about the Patriots old unis though. |

Those unis are so awesome, Hogan ... I can't wait to see them again.
And speaking of unis, How TF do the Patriots get exempted from the rules?! Every other team must put first name initials on jerseys of layers with the same last name. We even had to write out full names like "Darrent Williams" and "Mike Anderson" fully on the backs of our jerseys to distinguish the other Williams and Anderson. And yet, Tom and Kyle Brady don't have to?! WTF?! . |
