No, I had not seen any of that before. Thanks for posting it. If you visit their myspace page, they've got some demos/works in progress posted, so we may get a new album in the near future. Nothing can top Psychocandy though...one of my all-time favorite albums.

You Gotta See This ...
My idol Jimmy Page playing in a skiffle band, apparently at age 12. Stay tuned for the interview after the song ... his first goal was to cure cancer: |

I spinning some Cake.
If you like intelligent, polished pop-rock music with more hooks than a trot line, then check out some Cake. |

Man.....I HATED Saga.....absolutely HATED them. I remember when MTV played this video every hour on the hour in 1982 along with other horrible vids that have scarred me for life by one off vid pop bands.....like The Flirts and whatnot. Blecch

Well, the video is crap of course (thanks though LABF - it's fun to see). But the song holds up damned well after 25 years. And the C-parts - the instrumental parts with guitar and keyboard stops, going up and down (starting at 2:09 and hitting the ceiling at 2:36) - slays me dead. It resolves back to the vocal at 2:58 with hyper-precison-metal-perfection too ... please .... someone .... call 911 ... for me!!!!
But I know nothing about Saga really ... thought they were a 1-hit wonder. Last edited by BroncoBuff; 01-10-2008 at 12:21 PM.. |

![]() Btw - I've been dredging up lots of this early-mid 80s stuff the past few days. Other tunes that (imho) hold up well - stand the test of time - include Erasure's 'Send Me an Angel', Donny Iris' 'Ah Leah!', Flock of Seagulls' 'Wishing', and a couple of those Men at Work numbers. Human League songs were not what I remembered, neither was Asia's 'Heat of the Moment.' And, oddly enough, neither is Bowie's 'China Girl.' (BTW- If anybody has mp3 of the LIVE versions of Danzig's 'Mother' or the Floaters' 'Float On' ... lemme know.) Last edited by BroncoBuff; 01-10-2008 at 12:50 PM.. |

When I reflect on the 80s, I can name only two bands that were formed during that decade that I really got excited about: 1) Night Ranger - Great songs, (I'm not talking about "Sister Christian" - dig deeper) great melodies, great hooks, two outstanding lead vocalists, and the jaw-dropping (at that time, anyway) guitar duo of Brad Gillis and Jeff Watson. When I first heard Gillis and Watson playing on that 1982 MTV video "Don't Tell Me You Love Me," my first reaction was "Eddie Van Who?" Granted, the band did fall victim to the schmaltzy ballad syndrome later on. 2) Scandal - IMO, Patty Smyth was one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time. When David Lee Roth left Van Halen, Patty was Eddie's first choice for his replacement, so that should say something about her vocal prowess. I couldn't stand the punk, wave, and hairdo metal stuff (just my personal tastes - don't flame me.) ![]() |

![]() I guess it's just a matter of personal taste - I thought most of her songs were great. Of course, with a voice like hers, I could probably listen to her sing "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" and still get goose bumps! Quote:
