A Salt Lake City bank robbery was foiled Friday when someone threw a chair from a second-story balcony, striking the would-be bandit.

About 4:30 p.m., a masked suspect entered Home Savings Bank at 1455 E. 2100 South. When he drew a knife, police say, someone on the bank's second floor saw what was happening and activated the alarm.

A second person grabbed a chair and hurled it off the balcony, striking the suspect in the back and knocking him to the ground.

The suspect rose, yelled something at the chair-tosser and ran out of the bank, heading north between houses on Redondo Avenue.

The suspect is described as a black man in his 30s, about 5 foot 10 . He had a medium build and was bald or had very short hair. He was wearing a blue parka, blue jeans, tan shoes, black gloves and a dark mask. Anyone with information in the case can call Salt Lake City police at 801-799-3000. Carlisle/delany

Why was the would-be robber allowed to get up? The point of striking him in the back was so someone could pin him to the ground until the police arrived...

I agree on that account... I mean a chair from the 2nd floor had to have hurt like hell
