Anyone have any input on PR as a short vacation! I need to get the ^*$# out of town for a quick breather and I haven't renewed my passport, so my "beach" options are limited.
The prices from Denver seem reasonable. 4 nights at the Marriott Stellaris with flight for about $1600 isn't bad, but what is there to do and see, and should I rent a car or do the public transport? |

I have been there a few times (and came close to getting mugged)- I would rather go to the Cayman Islands, Cancun or Playa del Carmen any day (of course I don't know how things are there after the storm)-
I'm sure there are people who love the place (but I would not go out after dark if I were you)- |

Do you look "Muggable", and what is "getting close to being mugged"? I'm not trying to put you down, just trying to get some details/ info. I'd rather go to one of the islands, but I don't feel like dealing with the passport renewal right now. So my options are U.S. and U.S Territories. Guam may be another option. The place has some beautiful water, but the flight is brutal! Mexico doesn't appeal to me. Maybe because I already live in Mexico/North AKA Denver. If I get my passport renewed, I may do Costa Rica or the Dominican Rep, but I'm not pumping my $$$ into mexico! |

Yeah, without a passport, your options are fairly limited. Unless you expedite! You might be able to get it in a matter of two weeks. Or, if you need to just renew, you can do that by mail.
I haven't done PR, but I absolutely fell in love with Grand Cayman (a little costly, though) and my most favorite place was Belize!! SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL! And it's very cost friendly, too. You might want to try Tripadvisor.com. There are a LOT of reviews there from past visitors. I used this site quite extensively when I was researching my trip to Jamaica a few years back. |

Orrrrr, if you are looking for a quick get away, Hawaii might be an option. It seems like it's getting into the season where they offer some great deals! Just a thought! And no passport required.

PR is great, but like any country wether it's the usa, france,or anywhere you run a risk if you're in a bad part of town or at just the wrong place at the wrong time.

I don't know what you mean by "muggable", but I would not consider myself wimpy if that is what you are asking-
It means we were being "tailed" by a group of young men, and we were lucky enough to run into a Taxi at an opertune moment (these young "Gentlemen" were becoming awful close, and about half of them had circled around the Block, moving in from both sides)- |

Was it a bad part of town, or is this the norm? We most likely will be spending most of our time at the resort, with a few trips to restaurants or nightclubs in the eve, and some shopping/ sightseeing during the day, and of course some Deep sea fishing for me ! |

Since I'm in the Dominican I would recomend you renew your passport and get down here... to somewhere in the east of the island (best beaches there).
However if you don't feel like renewing... try the US Virgin Islands.... they're nice. |

If that is the case you would probably be fine-I would just take Taxi's at night (never felt threatened during the day) and watch myself- I would also vote for the Virgin Islands-love St. Thomas! |

Is it as F-in HOT as Aruba? If it is, forget it. I lke moderate temps (mid 80s are nice). When we went to Aruba last year it was 100 something every day. Nice place, but the temps are unbearable. That's why I was thinking PR. |

TN,
Sent you a PM. My friend lived in Caguas, PR and San Juan for over 30 years before coming to the states. She can tell you everything you need to know. |
