Gary Payton is the biggest steal of the draft so far. He should have gone right after Zeke and Stockton.

People tend to forget about how good he was since he has been a role player last couple years. His big shot in game 3 in NBA finals propelled the heat to 4 straight.

First team all defense nine times. First team all trash talk every year while he was good. Durable as hell, too.

Thanks for the tip Lama. The Fighting Irish select George Mikan C Lakers.
George Mikan It's hard to believe today, but until the 1940s basketball was considered a sport better suited to shorter men than to taller, less nimble players. George Mikan, a 6-10 giant of a man who possessed superior coordination and a fierce competitive spirit, was one of the prototypes for the dominating tall players of later decades. Towering over most of his competitors, he was one of the most effective scorers of his day, averaging 22.6 points over a professional career that lasted nine years -- one with the Chicago American Gears and eight with the Minneapolis Lakers Honors: Elected to Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (1959); NBA champion (1950, '52, '53, '54); Five-time All-NBA First Team (1950-54); Four-time NBA All-Star (1951-54); All-Star MVP (1953); One of 50 Greatest Players in NBA History (1996). NBL Honors: NBL champion (1947, '48); NBL MVP (1948); All-NBL First Team (1947, '48). G FG% FT% Rebs RPG Asts APG Pts PPG 439 .404 .782 4,167 9.5 1,245 2.8 10,156 23.1 |

In that case...
With my first pick, I choose ![]() Phil Jackson, Coach A former player for the New York Knicks, Jackson is widely considered one of the greatest coaches in the history of the National Basketball Association. His reputation was established as head coach of the Chicago Bulls from 1989 through 1998; during his tenure in Chicago, Jackson led the team to six NBA titles. His reputation was furthered when his next team, the Los Angeles Lakers, won three consecutive NBA titles. Jackson is known for his use of Tex Winter's triangle offense as well as a holistic approach to coaching that is influenced by Eastern philosophy, earning him the nickname "Zen Master". Overall Record Regular Season: 919-393(.700) Playoffs: 179-77(.699) My Roster so far: F: Elgin Baylor F: C: Patrick Ewing G: G: Coach: Phil Jackson Last edited by Inkana7; 06-18-2007 at 11:57 AM.. |

We're going back a few years for this pick:
![]() (College picture) Lenny Wilkins Lenny Wilkens was drafted sixth overall by the St. Louis Hawks in the 1960 NBA Draft. He played for the Hawks (1960-1968), Seattle SuperSonics (1968-1972), Cleveland Cavaliers (1972-1974) and Portland Trail Blazers (1974-1975). Wilkens placed second to Wilt Chamberlain in the 1967-1968 MVP balloting. Wilkens was a nine-time NBA All-Star, and was named the All-Star Game MVP in 1971. He led the league in assists in the 1969-70 season, and at the time of his retirement, Wilkens was the NBA's second all-time leading playmaker, behind only Oscar Robertson. |
