13 years of poor results is anything but "recent." Especially when you're talking about a whopping two playoff appearances in that time frame.

He made some bad choices going to bad teams. Vancouver, Boston, Florida all rebuilding projects etc. It was his decision to go to those places and thats on him. However going to Calgary is not in a rebuilding process. They are a capable team that needs work on their lineup.

I never said Calgary was bad, but they're not the elite team you're portraying them to be. Their trip to the Finals was three years ago and they've been trending downward since. Coaching may be one of the issues that's caused it, but Mike Keenan is one of the last people I'd think they'd want leading their team since his antiquated style and abrasive personality have made him a failure in his last four jobs.

I'm curious to see how the hyper-sensitive Alex Tanguay takes to Keenan's rough style. He didn't respond well to the tough love of Bob Hartley at all when he was here.

I'm not saying their elite but they have the main pieces you need for an elite hockey team. They have one of the top Goalies in the league, top scorer, Very good young defensman. They need to get better support around those guys. I am not trying to make Keenan to be one of the top Coaches in the NHL all-time or anything like that, I just think this is actually a good fit for him unlike the jobs he was on.

Oh, and on task about the Flames' hiring of Keenan.

Look, we have a ton of talent on this team. A ton of Talent that went unmotivated and underutilized last year. This is a boom or bust hiring. If Keenan can't motivate this squad to do what it's done before, then it's time to blow up the roster. If he can, the sky's the limit. That's why I like this hiring. Not to mention, he's not in charge of the Roster. Sutter is. He's just coaching.

Oh, and if Tanguay gets his feelings hurt by mean old "5th on the all time wins list" Iron Mike, then I'm sure he can go cry on Playfair's shoulder.

The more I read about him, the more I'm sold on Nick Petrecki. He sounds like the kind of hard hitting, stay at home D-man the Avs need. The Avs have enough smallish, puck movers, they need a big hitter.

If he's there at 14 (and the Avs are drafting from that spot) he'd be an ideal choice.

Yeah my friend told me that right when they won the Stanley Cup that it appears that Scott was retiring...I don't know about Selanne.

The Penguins today signed right winger Connor James to a one-year contract.

James, 24, had 32 points, including 12 goals, last season with the Penguins' farm club in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He also had eight points in 11 American Hockey League playoff games.

James was a ninth-round draft pick by Los Angeles in 2002 and played in two NHL games in 2005-06. He first signed with the Penguins as a free agent last year.

The 5-foot-10, 190-pounder played on the University of Denver's 2004 NCAA championship team.

I don't mean to keep picking on the Flames (seriously, division rivals or not, I don't really have anything against them), but I don't like this move unless they're unloading a bad contract of their own on the Blackhawks. Aucoin is grossly overpaid at $4 million per season and he has two years left on his deal. He played like crap when he actually managed to be in the lineup for Chicago (he's missed 70 games over the past two seasons) and he turns 34 next month.

I'll wait until they announce both sides of the trade before I condemn it.
