An eight time All-Star and three time all NBA 2nd team selection. English was the first player in NBA history to record 2000+ points in eight consecutive seasons and scored more points in the 80's than any other player. Led the Nuggets to the playoffs nine times in ten years, including their only appearance in the Conference Finals. Was the 7th on the all-time scoring list when he retired.

I prefer King James.



Already averaging 27 PPG, 7 RPG, and 6 APG at the tender age of 22, he will only continue to improve, and can already take over games, as seen in the jaw-dropping 48 points he poured in against the Pistons in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Nowitzki has revolutionized the PF position, and simultaneously opened the door for foreign players to assume starring roles on NBA teams. It's a phenomenon akin to an American soccer player showing up in Europe and becoming a world superstar.

Nowitzki has been the key element in the turning around of a Dallas franchise that was a perennial lottery team. Since Dirk's arrival, he has led the Mavericks to the playoffs 7 out of his 9 seasons including a trip to the NBA Finals. During that stretch in the playoffs, he displayed the type of performances that very few have achieved before him, including a 50 point game to put his team ahead in the second half of the 2005-2006 Conference Finals and a legendary performance in game 7 of the classic Mavs/Spurs tilt.

Nowitzki has become the model for a whole new type of player: the versatile, scoring, elbow-oriented big. Dirk is quite possibly the greatest big man shooter of all-time.

Dirk is the only player in NBA history to have both blocked 100 shots and made 150 three pointers. Dirk is the reigning NBA MVP. Dirk has been a 7-time All-NBA selection. Dirk has been a 6-time all-star, and the only European player to ever start an all-star game. Dirk is the only player to win the MVP Award to have never played in a US preparatory school or college. Nice pick CO. He was one of the three I had targeted when I selected Nique. Great pick. It's interesting to see guys like lebron,dirk and Wade go this early. All immensely talented, but in the top 36 players of all time? I dunno about that quite yet.

For me personally, it's a size issue. Who in history would be able to guard LeBron with his size and speed at the point? Magic probably, but who else? Same with Shaq. I don't want to put down other centers through time, but I don't know which one of them could really handle Shaq. Granted, could Shaq handle them on D? Debatable. But being 7 feet tall and like 300 pounds, that is a monster of a man.

As much as we hammer Dirk on this board, llama is putting him at SF. Who in the history of the game could deal with a 7-footer who could rain 3's at the SF position?

Obviously, some legends have been passed up, and they were great, and had phenomenal career stats. MVPs, All-Star games galore. But IMO some of these kids could play with them right now.

I think that Dirk has the resume to enter into the conversation. He still has the years to continue to improve on that resume. Dirk is a historically unique player, only approximately similar to a few guys...Bob Petit, Bob McAdoo. A Championship is really all that Dirk is missing, and he'll have several shots to take care of that over the next 4-5 seasons.

LeBron is interesting, because he has no historical comparison. He's somewhere in-between Magic Johnson, Charles Oakley (strength), and Dominique Wilkins and could eventually end up the best player ever, but he doesnt have the resume quite yet. I am pretty confident that although LeBron had a disappointing showing in the finals, and undoubtedly will have some disappointments along the way, that he will ultimately in his prime be a completely unique and unstoppable force.

If Sabonis would have played his entire career stateside, he would have been a top 50 player.
