Cool.
![]() Larry Bird Once every generation or so, a player comes along who can truly be called a superstar. Larry Bird was such a player. For 13 seasons with the Boston Celtics, from 1979-80 through 1991-92, Bird personified hustle, consistency and excellence in all areas of play--as a scorer, a passer, a rebounder, a defender, a team player, and, perhaps above all, as a clutch performer. Bird was so self-confident that he was known to waltz up to the opponents' bench before tipoff and predict a 40-point performance for himself. He was such a deadly shooter that he sometimes practiced three-pointers with his eyes closed. more... Nice pick Freak. You didn't lose much by slipping two spots. One could argue that Bird should go ahead of Russel or Olajuwon.

Okay it is 6:30 PST here so 8:30 CST so I'll make my pick and it probably won't effect mangoblin anyway. but with the 12 pick in the draft Azbroncfan selects

Built more like a tight end than a basketball player, his size and strength made him difficult to defend in the low block, but he also filled the lane on the fast break and shot a deadly medium-range jumper. The two-time MVP finished his career with 36, 928 points second only behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He also attempted more free throws and grabbed more defensive rebounds than any player in NBA history. He was also selected to the 50th Anniversary All-Time Team and won two Olympic gold medals. As a player who consistently delivered on the court, he deserved the nickname of "The Mailman." When we rate the different squads, are we judging the players on thier careers, or the entire squad with each player at thier peak, or which squad would win a tourney.
Also, in the 2nd round do we start over, or does the first pick in the first get the last pick in the 2nd? It's be cool to do a tourney, and we could vote on who would move on etc... |

I have to say, I had Nash slotted lower as well.
But it brings up an interesting discussion. Where do we slot Nash? 2 MVP's, no matter what the era or competition, is a huge deal. |

When you look at a career, Nash wont stack up. 3 seasons as a great player wont put him on the level of the other great PG's, much less the other greats. In an all-time draft, Nash doesnt stack up. There are several other players from his own generation that should be taken ahead of Nash. I understand that there are several Suns homers here, but be realistic. |

Oscar Robertson G 1960-1970 Cincinatti Royals, 1970-74 Milwaukee Bucks.
Oscar Robertson Oscar Robertson, the "Big O," is the player against whom all others labeled "all-around" are judged, and he may remain the standard forever. Statistically, one need look no further than the numbers Robertson put up in 1961-62, just his second year in the league: 30.8 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 11.4 assists per game-an average of a triple-double for an entire season. Not even Magic Johnson or Larry Bird could match those numbers. During his 14-year NBA career with the Cincinnati Royals and the Milwaukee Bucks, Robertson amassed 26,710 points. Honors: Elected to Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (1980); NBA champion (1971); NBA MVP (1964); Nine-time All-NBA First Team (1961-69); All-NBA Second Team (1970, '71); Rookie of Year (1961); 12-time All-Star (1961-72); All-Star MVP (1961, '64, '69); One of 50 Greatest Players in NBA History (1996); Olympic gold medalist ('60). For my first pick, I select:
Elgin Baylor ![]() Had Elgin Baylor been born 25 years later, his acrobatic moves would have been captured on video, his name emblazoned on sneakers, and his face plastered on cereal boxes. But he played before the days of widespread television exposure, so among the only records of his prowess that remain are the words of those who saw one of the greatest ever to play. "He was one of the most spectacular shooters the game has ever known," Baylor's longtime teammate Jerry West told HOOP magazine in 1992. "I hear people talking about forwards today and I haven't seen many that can compare with him." Bill Sharman played against Baylor and coached him in his final years with the Lakers. "I say without reservation that Elgin Baylor is the greatest cornerman who ever played pro basketball," he told the Los Angeles Times at Baylor's retirement in 1971. That is the one-word description often applied to Patrick Ewing. He was indefatigable and relentless in pursuit of an NBA championship despite being denied on an annual basis. Bold predictions did not always materialize and some took them as empty promises, while others as a will to succeed. One of the finest shooting centers to play, he left the game as the New York Knicks' all-time leader in nearly every significant category and the game's 13th all-time scorer with 24,815 points.
