Pit Bull Terriers, Cane Corso, Presa Canario, Neapolitan Mastiffs, Tosa Inu are all great breeds of dogs. They are however not for inexperinced owners. Dogs like this must be socialized as puppy around people and other dogs. Unless you want these dogs to be aggressive you can never encourage aggressive behavior and instead discourage it with daily training sessions. These particular breeds are notorious for testing the owners dominance. The Pitt Bull is actually the least dangerous of these dogs but because they are so prevelent they are in the news the most. Rottwielers are actually easier to train and are usually very obediant dogs. Same with Dobermans. The Germans never bred for fighting as much as hunting and protection. The Japanese Tosa Inu prob the meanest fighting dog in the world. The Japanese did bread for fighting. As did the Italians which is why the Presa can be so mean. In closing I'd just like to say I don't support a ban on any dog breed. This is America and we should be able to have any dog as long as the owner is responsible. When a dog attacks for no reason then it should be put down. Also we have strict liability on dog bites as far as suing someone so you better think twice about having a dog you havent properly trained, that can do the amount of damage as the breeds discussed above can do.

im NOT saying labs are bad dogs. not by any stretch. heck, i have one. what im saying is that stats are misleading, and you showed how with regards to labs. with regards to pits, its the levels of abuse and neglect, as well as media sensationalism. right here in denver 9news reported a "pitbull" attack some time ago and when it came out that it wasnt a pit they refused to update the story. didnt sound as good. stats are generally very misleading |

Stupid people. Mating animals that wouldn't occur in nature. You end up with something that doesn't know what it is. But it wants to dig holes a mile deep, run 50 miles a day, and tear up everything it's curious about. Then people can't understand why their "pet" doesn't adapt to apartment life.
What makes a wolf a wolf is it is something you can't own. While they can be domesticated to a point, why? We have to change the magnificent for our own pitiful egos. Just a shame. |

Henry likes to steathily sneak up behind joggers before dawn and suddenly appear about 3 feet away from their right hand and stare at them and then match their gait.
The neighbor's pit bull liked him. The pitbull liked the two people, their second dog and Henry. Everyone else was dead meat walking. My guess is that the kids' screaming and the JRT barking set the pit bulls into a state of excitement by an unusual situtation, and their predispostion is to attack if confused and excited, unless they've been conditioned to have another response. So, you've got a dog that basically needs "special handling." And yes Dobies were in that category 25 years ago, but the breed was altered by breeding. Unfortunately, pit bulls are not bred in accordance with professional breeding. Their not even recognized as a breed, and that's probably wrong. |

If anything I was going to assume a politician considering you cannot answer a direct question. The Drug addict, trailer park, dog breader is a nice touch. But I fail to see where I came even close to saying that... Now here is an assumption I am going to make you must have all those posts here from defending yourself from yourself. Hell this thread was good for at least 7. Just let it go. You are beyond making sense and well its almost insluting to myself to argue with you. |

ya know i never liked it when they banned pitbulls here in ontario a few years ago, thought the dogs were getting a bad rap, i still think that most of the problem is the owners, BUT since theyve banned pit bulls we havent had any stories of kids getting mauled by dogs, so weather its the dogs fault or not i dont really care at least it has stopped.
for you pit bull lovers, would you leave your 2 or 3 little kids with the dog unsupervised ? if so how bad would you feel if something happened to them ? if not then why the hell would you let the dogs loose with my kids ? |

...we had a Wolf/Husky when I was a kid. It wanted to stay outside at night, even when it was freezing cold, and would howl at the moon. We had to put him down after owning him for 5 or 6 years because he almost took my Dad's finger off. He was my favorite pet as a child...we put a lot of thought into his name..."Lobo"EDIT: I should note that Lobo was a stray dog that we thought was a pure Husky initially. He was just a puppy when we got him. My dad is an animal lover and all of our pets were either strays or ones that were going to be put to sleep at the pound. Either that or he is just a cheap bastard...probably a combination of both. Last edited by Steve Sewell; 05-02-2007 at 06:24 PM.. |

"This is America"...I should be able to have a meth lab in my back yard as long as I'm responsible. "This is America"...I should be able to have a loaded AK-47 on me when I drink beer on my front porch as long as I'm responsible. "This is America"...I should be able to have nuclear waste barrels buried in my backyard. The list could go on, but haven't the statistics proven that pit bulls are BY FAR the most hazardous dog when it comes to public safety? I've heard tons of reports about pit bull maulings where it was their first ever attack and it lived in a loving home. You can't ignore statistics like the one's slug posted by saying, "oh that's just the ones with the bad owners". Which is probably the reason why the majority of the Libertarian crowd failed to appropriately respond to them. Seriously, there is no point in owning a pit bull. There are literally thousands of other breeds out there to choose from, but you choose...the most dangerous breed available by a wide margin. Think about how stupid that sounds... Pitt,Rotty, chihuahua,Lab,Golden retriever(only mean one I have met),Mutts,Boston,Toy Poodle,Shepards,Pug,Great Dayne, and some others. Some of these dogs just try biting right off the bat no matter how nice you are, but also some of the dogs dont like being restrained for certain things we were doing to them.I just love it when a owner says my dog is nice he will never bite(or some crap like that) and soon as I put my hand out slowly so the dog can sniff it, he trys to bite.If any of you plan on doing this type of job make sure you dont scar easy because the chance of being bit at least once is high and the chance of being scratched is a gaurantee 100% chance. You just dont know how many you will get that week. |

ive got two of 'em pal, and im guessing you dont. www.dogbreedinfo.com theyre rated in the top category with reliability w/ children and strangers, and every other neutral source of information says the same thing. sounds like ALOT of really insane people huh? or maybe youre just uneducated on the subject. thats okay, but you might wanna get some info besides an occasional sensationalized news story before calling people insane. our dogs smile when we walk through the door. they like to spoon. they get their feelings hurt when disciplined (they remember long after. really cute). they start shaking when they hear people yelling. theyve never even SNAPPED at a person let alone bit someone. theyre afraid of my sisters cat and the older one ran to me whimpering when my dads spaniel went after him. they like to go for rides in the car, and will lay their heads in our laps while we're driving. they pose for pictures, they eat almost daintily (also very cute. unlike a typical dog that swallows food whole), and the younger one consistently accompanies my wife to her hair salon where the kids from the neighboring karate studio cant wait to come play with him and/or take him for a walk after their workout. get a clue before insulting people. |
