Are Canada's gun laws effective? Here are some figures from the Canadian Firearms Centre:

* There are an estimated 7.4 million firearms in Canada, about 1.2 million of which are restricted firearms (mostly handguns). In the U.S., there are approximately 222 million firearms; 76 million of the firearms in circulation are handguns.
* For 1987-96, on average, 65% of homicides in the U.S. involved firearms, compared to 32% for Canada
* For 1987-96, the average firearm homicide rate was 5.7 per 100,000 in the U.S., compared to 0.7 per 100,000 for Canada.
* For 1989-95, the average handgun homicide rate was 4.8 per 100,000 in the U.S., compared to 0.3 per 100,000 for Canada. Handguns were involved in more than half (52%) of the homicides in the U.S., compared to 14% in Canada.
* For 1989-95, the average non-firearm homicide rate was 3.1 per 100,000 people in the U.S., compared to 1.6 per 100,000 for Canada.

No, your a p***Y because you are comparing the US to a bunch of French ****s in Canada with a completely different history and culture.

So I'm supposed to LIKE a culture of murder and violence? Seems counterintuitive for someone who would claim to have any sense of morality.

Calling me a "p***Y" for having a differing opinion is far from mature...irregardless you are coming off as an ignorant punk who can't handle others having a different viewpoint from you.

I'm putting your ass on ignore, but my last statement directed towards you.

It isn't the legal guns that are the problem, so not allowing citizens to have them won't help the situation. It's enforcement.

I say you move to canada or europe also. You think restricting guns from law abiding citizens will keep them from the criminals? Anti gun morons have had no experience with guns and blame the weapon and not the nutjob. If someone wants to kill you bad enough they will do it gun or not.

There is a place in our Society for guns , there is also a place for no guns either , problem is both sides have a point .......... I say if you are a non felon over the age of 18 , own gun if you want ........... Background checks , is not fool proof but it is a start ...........something has to be done . too many kids are getting their hands on Firearms .......

Spider, the problem is enforcement of the laws. There is a background check already, and if you have anything on your record (even something like stealing a road sign) you won't be able to buy a gun. The problem is not the guns that people are getting legally, it's the guns that people are getting illegaly.

Hopefully one day guns will only activate for individuals with correct fingerprints, but even then the criminals will get smart and learn how to program the guns.

All I know is hunters do FAR FAR FAR more good for the health of the animals. Hunters donate millions of dollars than the peta/antihunters do. Infact whenever I am having that discussion with an anti hunter I always ask what was the last thing you did to help the animals or when was the last donation you made to wildlife? The answer is usually a pause and change of subject. In fact the rich californian peta lovers here in utah are building their mansions in the winter range of the deer/elk and are killing a lot of animals but fail to care about that.

Energy policy is just as damaging ........ Hunting Fishing , hiking , what ever your bag is , you are losing more and more ground everyday .........
1 memory that has stuck with me , probably will for the rest of my life , a couple of summers ago , i spent the night Wamsutter desert , pulled over about 30 miles from the rig , woke up around 5:30 am , saw a heard of wild horses running in the horizon .....I would like to have my kids see something like that

I'm LMFAO over all of this. I have a differing opinion than other's and I'm being told to "move to canada", called a "p***Y", and being put on ignore. Being told to "take it to the politics forum" during offseason mode....

I find it nauseating that people can HATE others over a differing viewpoint, but I guess that's par for the course in the highly polarized American political world today.

Get over yourselves...I don't hate you for being pro-firearm, don't hate me for being anti-firearm.

Bingo! It's pretty much useless comparing countries.

Drugs are illegal, but the nation still has a problem with that. They tried banning alcohol and we all no how well that went over. There is absolutely nothing wrong letting someone have guns if they preserved that right by following the law and staying safe. I'd love to see someone try to take away firearms from a Kansas farmer! You can drive around Kansas with your rifle hanging in the window loaded and ready to shoot, no lock required.
