i know this is off topic but i have seen a couple of people post these types of threads here before. i need some assistance on some electronics knowledge.
i am buying a high def. TV so that i can watch the playoff games. i bet somebody i would if the broncos made it to the playoffs. so i win all around. my question is this whole wiring thing. is HDMI better? do all HDMI cables carry 1080i or 1080p signals? would i get the same out of the s-video cable and the digital fiber optic cables? is there really a difference and how much do you see between hdmi cables? the salesman are trying to sell me the world and i really dont want to pay for the world. any help for a fellow bronco fan out there> GO BRONCOS |

HDMI is just a type of interface. It's an option worth having

As far as the difference between
S-Vid Fiber HDMI I don't know, but just about any TV you buy will have the option for all three. If your town has over the AIR HD you don't need anything but the built in HD tuner and a 10 dollar set of rabbit ears. So the only thing you need for the playoffs is the TV itself |

i have direct TV. people are showing me all different types of HDMI cables. and everyone agrees on only 1 thing. that fiber optic sound cables are the elite. so is there a difference between all these different HDMI cables? 1 is 400 another is 600 another is 800. i mean this sounds retarded but i want to buy the right stuff. thanks

HDMI is an interface that carries both high-definition video and digital audio. 1080p is the highest of the high definitions, and that's where the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray standards are. You might see 1080i on some programming, but most HD programming is 720p.

All I am saying is get that stuff later. Does your Sat tuner have HDMI? Do you own an HDMI device? Does anything you have use fiber...may a stereo you run your TV sound through?
I'm just trying to help you keep from spending money on stuff you don't need right now....or do you care? |

After thinking about it....HDMI 1.3 is going to carry what the TV is capable of or the device the signal is coming from. Stand DVD players do 480p...if I ran it HDMI...it doesn't matter what the cable can do...it's coming out 480p because that's what the DVD disc is coded at

I've been hoping for a lightning strike or an accidental golf-club-mishap to happen to my 3-year-old 57" Sony rear projection. I want one of those 72" DLP beauties. My wife is not too happy. She just doesn't understand that a man needs 1080p to run a respectable multimedia powerhouse computer these days.

ok i have direct tv. it has a hdmi port as well as fiber optic port. i will be running all signals through a reciever that upcnverts all signals to 1080i, its new and state of the art. it also has 3 HDMI imports and 1 output as far as hdmi is concerned. this is why i ask is there a difference between the different hdmi cables or can i just get away with teh basic hdmi cable?
guys thanks for all and any help |

Previously, the maximum pixel rate of the interface, HDMI 1.0, was 165Mpixels/second, sufficient for supporting 1080p at 60Hz or WUXGA (1920x1080), but HDMI 1.3 increased that to 340Mpixels/second, providing support beyond the highest resolution computer monitors available today. |

thanks i appreciate that so if i got it str8 look for hdmi 1.3 for optimal performance. to go along with a fiber optic sound for the best. now if they could only figure out who will win the HD war. will it be blue ray or will it be HD-DVD. it comes down to this. do you want to play playstation 3 or xbox 360? every person told me that is the way to go if anyone is interested in this

Bottom line....you can use 1.0 HDMI, but 1.3 will give you better opportunity for grwoth, but I would get the TV home before I bought 150.00 cable. Try to get them to throw it in. But I would eBay the cable you want to save cash. You can get the playoffs on over the air HD at what ever they broadcast NFL games on CBS..which I believe 1080i...might be 780p. They can tell you your tuner converts it to 1080 whatever, but you are still only getting whatever the source is giving you....
An axiom to remember is you can never get better than the source..period. A copy of a copy is never as good as the source...it is true in the digitial world Last edited by Garcia Bronco; 12-29-2006 at 04:41 PM.. |
