Front Range Commuter Rail is studying a project that would have a high speed passenger train connect Casper and Albuquerque. It would operate on existing rail lines if current freight traffic could be moved. Wyoming would need to contribute 400 thousand dollars to participate in the feasibility study. The train would not be completed until 2016.

That would be a good alternative to that FREX (Fornt Range EXpress) bus that runs back & fourth between Colorado Springs & Denver... but thats a lot of jack for a sparsely populated state to pitch in for a study... I wonder how much CO & NM's cut is?

our population has damn near trippled , Rock Springs is pretty close to 19k population Cheyenne is well near a 100K , Caper and natrona county damn near 70 K
Wyoming made Nightline up close news , we just brought in another 1,500 from Michigan . ok we are still not that big

I would be surprised if this went thru, honestly. High speed rail is expensive to lay. Rail passenger traffic in the US is already light and struggling on Gov't subsidies. While a high speed system would allure folks - due to its speed - that would avoid regular rail traffic, it would still have to compete with traveling by auto and flights. I know the high speed train on the eastern seaboard barely survives. Its at least expensive as flying, slower, and most folks travel on it simply for the novelty. If it were to succeed, IMHO, it would have to work from Denver down to Pueblo, showing itself viable, before it went up into WY and all the way down to Alb. There is about 440 miles between Denver and Alb. I would assume there would be NO stops between Pueblo and Santa Fe - that is a long stretch of track to lay.

I dont know , the face of the west is changing , moderate winters , high paying Jobs , reasonable housing ........... no telling what the future holds in the next 10 years
