Default What Classic or Older Movie.....

I was thinking the other day about older movies. Lets say anything in the early 80's or before. I know the early 80's shouldn't be considered older, but for the sake of technology advances lets include it.

What older movie would you like to see re-made today?

One of my all time favorite movies was Clash of the Titans. I would love to see a remake of that with newer technology. I used to watch that movie time and time again. I still watch it when it's on cable.

Fun movie. Ray Harryhausen's last film. Also, Laurence Olivier as Zeus.

I think the whole remake thing is sort of a blight on the film industry right now. How about some new ideas?

I completely agree. Remakes are never as good and usually disappointing. Most of my favorite movies were made pre-1960.

One thing you can do is to take a movie that should have worked but for whatever reason came out bad and make it good. I'm ok with re-making a bad movie if it's done well, but if a movie was good, don't try and remake it: It just doesn't work.

I can think of 2 recent movies, Oceans Eleven and Thomas Crowne Affair, that were as good as or better than the original. For the most part, I think they should leave the originals alone. Otherwise, they just crap on them. Can you imagine Casablanca redone for today? Jim Carrey spazzing out and pop culture references? Sounds delictable.

Oh, and I liked the remake of the Italian Job, too. However, I wouldnt really call any of the 3 flicks I mentioned here as classics. They can stick to redoing neverheardofs from the 60s, but leave the good ones alone.

You want to hear the ultimate Jim Carrey nightmare project?

How about Carrey as Randall P McMurphy in Cuckoo's Nest?

I would take hostages to make sure that film wasn't made.

But really, don't you think an update on the technology would rob Clash of some of it's kitsch? I always thought one of the reasons why it was an enjoyable film was because of it's cheesiness in the special effects dept. It kinda gave it almost an Ed Woodlike feel IMHO.

I really agree with Slap here.......there's far too many remakes now and not enough original or fresh ideas when it comes to films.

I'll help you with those hostages Slap. Carrey bores me and Cukoo is one of my all time favorites.

One movie I think could be remade and updated is "A Clockwork Orange". Of course Hollywood would screw it up by casting Nicholas Cage or Rock as the primary character.

The stop-motion animation could CERTAINLY be improved upon. Otherwise, it's one of my favorite movies. However, I shudder to think who Hollywood would cast in the Harry Hamlin character...
